So I want to go the nitrogen route but I don't feel comfortable with bags over my head, so I bought this mask:

After buying it, however, I read the 'Inert Gas Cylinder & Regulator: General Refresher Summary' post on here by fightingsioux and he said this in it:

"Follow the well-documented procedure for using the Exit Bag: put it on your head with the elastic drawcord around your temples and forehead. Scrunch it down, getting rid of the air. Turn on the regulator and adjust the flow to 15-19 LPM. The bag will inflate. Breathe out as much as you can, pull the bag down over your whole head so the elastic drawcord is snug, not airtight, around your neck. Take a deep breath, then breath naturally. The lighter inert gas will keep the bag filled while the heavier CO2 escapes out the bottom"

Problem is, my mask is airtight. Before reading his post I thought that would be a good thing as to not let any oxygen in, but now all the CO2 has nowhere to go...

Should I use the oxygen mask I bought and just not tighten it up all the way? Or does that only work with a bag since the CO2 needs to go out the bottom?

What you have there is a genuine non-rebreather mask. It will fulfill the task of exit; however, just make sure that you leave the circular flaps on the sides of the masks on. They function as one-way valves: permit gases to exit during exhalation but prohibit air from entering from the outside during inhalation. Presuming you have a flow regulator and cylinder full of nitrogen, you are good to go!! The weblink to my blog is under my name.

I think you should use a nonrebreather mask and consult @greenberg's blog, [email protected].

You have a link to his blog?

So the CO2 can exit through those two green pieces either side of the nose?

@Stepheng7287 I prefer NRB mask too. NRB masks can be got online real cheap. I would think softening it up like in hot water, then molding it your face for a good fit, if the plastic hold it's new form? So how much riskier is a NRB mask compared to a turkey bag? idk. I'll experiment with both first. Has anybody else tested or practiced with both? And, many thanks to @greenber's blog [email protected] for his NRB diagrams and all the other info there.

Nitrogen is not that hard to find on CL, if you're patient, and check often, esp. if you live near a city. I scored a 21 cf cyl. on CL and looking forward to testing it out. Hope my test passes. :) Is 21 cf enough? Should I get a bigger bottle? A flow reg is not that hard to operate. YouTube has lots of videos about Oxygen therapy and tanks and gauges.

I want to ctb waiting in my car, with my seat belt on so I don't go wiggling all over and knock my mask off. Just got to find a place no one will bother me. So looking for a dirt road to nowhere. Or in a dark parking lot somewhere. Wish I had a garage.

oh, yeah, I prefer N over SN because I have stomach ulcers, and I think that would be painful. and it's so complicated: procuring, fasting, prepping, measuring, timing. Seems like too many variables can go wrong, causing pain, vomiting and not working.

Hello,
This is not for me but for a family member which is depressed/ill/old. He's actually a midget, like the size of a child.

Questions:
- Would this mask do the job with strong tape holding it in place just to strengthen the seal?
- He's the size of a child, would 15 LPM (he wants to use argon) be good enough, or does it have to be lower?
- The mask has 2 valves, I assume that CO2 goes out but O2 does not go in, is that right?

Thanks
