It’s all so tiresome

So many people on my campus seem to be dealing with something. I know so many people who are taking leaves from school, have major substance use problems, or just feel miserable in general. I guess it helps me deal with my own problems a little better knowing that a lot of people seem to be going through stuff. It does make me wonder whether the problem is with me, or that I am completely normal and society is just falling apart in general. What are your thoughts?

Society is falling apart. Everything's fast paced, if you slow down you get called incompetent and inefficient. No one can just live their lifes because there's always someone judging whatever you do. Mental health is expensive, some can get help, some don't and those who don't are suffering. Family means pressure if you care for them, preoccupation... it's hard to live, it's worse when you have mental health issues because you're just a burden to others. There aren't many people that are willing to help... so yeah, it's a mess in my opinion.

It seems to me that people were far more optimistic about the future and overall content pre covid. Things started to unravel during the lockdowns and since late 2022/early 2023, shit has really started to hit the fan and people are losing their sanity. That's how it appears to me at least.

Yeah, most people were optimistic untill they saw how fucked up the world is in general. We started to see people's lives taken away because of a pandemic and the bad (and late) measures taken by governments. Also, humans are social beings, being locked in our houses 2 years was hell for some people, i think that also contributed to the state the world is in today.

I think a lot of people are struggling at the very minimum but a lot are also depressed. 1 in 3 people at my friends workplace is on anti depressants! I find that terrifying to be honest- that in order just to function in our jobs and lives- we have to take drugs. 😬

Most people are miserable these days because we're living nonsensical lives. Modern societies are obsessed with efficiency, productivity, status, appearances... All of that is made-up nonsense. We're not psychologically calibrated to meet the bizarre demands of our post-industrial societies. We try to keep up but fail, so we feel like trash and think that there's something wrong with us. The truth is we're trying to keep up with a lifestyle that sees our humanity as a nuisance. We feel alienated from everything we're "supposed to do", because the things we're supposed to do are made-up and arbitrary, and no sane human can keep up with them without giving up their humanity in the process.

Its alarming how many people around me and those I see on the internet are drugged up to some degree once I started paying attention. No matter how miserable, depressed and suicidal I get, I refuse to medicate myself. It turns people into robots like the shit in movies where people are being controlled with a chip in their brain.

This world really is a horrific place, I think that it makes sense having negative feelings towards existence and not seeing life as being worth enduring, feeling such a way is simply being realistic.

Most people will end up being slaves to the society, with many being tortured by chronic illnesses, there really isn't anything appealing about having to exist and anyway all that we are destined for is to deteriorate and die, with no limit as to how much we can be tortured as long as we stay here. So it's really no wonder that so many people are suicidal in this hellish world, existence is a burden and suffering is simply the reality of being trapped here.
