  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I heard that in Canada it is possible to opt for euthanasia if you have BPD, is it real?

No, unfortunately MAID for solely mental illness won't take effect until March 2023 and even then it will be a very complicated process to get approved.

not really - the law is much more nuanced than that. you need to have a "grievous and irremediable medical condition". this is further explained:

"To be considered as having a grievous and irremediable medical condition, you must meet all of the following criteria. You must:

  • have a serious illness, disease or disability (excluding a mental illness until March 17, 2023)
  • be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed
  • experience unbearable physical or mental suffering from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable" Source
of course, "advanced state of decline" and "experience unbearable mental suffering" are all subject to the interpretations of whatever doctor is seeing you. they're going to put you under a microscope and go from there.

this is all contingent on the conservative gov't not being elected as well, since pierre poilievre has confirmed he will not allow this to exist if he is elected. Source

He won't allow MAID for mental health, or MAID in general?

that's not clear, but historically the conservatives in canada haven't supported assisted suicide. harper, scheer, and otoole (the three most recent conservative party leaders, besides pierre) all were against it in general.

i assume poilievre will tow the party line and be against

e: given politics can be quite divisive i'm attaching sources so nobody thinks i'm speaking out of my ass.

harper: source
scheer: source
o'toole: source
poilievre: see my post above

I wish Canada will open for suicide tourists, like Belgium and Switzerland.

In the unlikely situation that the NDP get in, what's their stance?
