What do you all think about euthanasia for the homeless? I recently read an article about Canadians becoming more supporting towards the idea. However, critics of this idea say that allowing euthanasia for the homeless would be akin to eugenics and a way for countries to easily deal with or coerce their homeless populations into dying rather than assisting them. It's an interesting idea. I can see the argument for why some would argue against it but I still think that it should be allowed anyways purely from a personal choice/freedom perspective. What do you all think about this topic? Do you think that we'll see more countries adopt this form of dealing with the homelessness crisis?

euthanasia should just be available to everyone as everyone has an uninfringible right to live and die, just that it should always be ones own choice

It should be an option for everyone but forced on no one. Just the other day I met this homeless guy in a parking lot, dude was in a wheelchair but he couldn't be happier.

Forced euthanasia for governments (professional politicians, bureaucrats, etc) with that artificial phenomenon of homeless people

There can be as many empty homes & hotel rooms as there are homeless. The whole point is to scare wageslaves into working harder. Erode their bargaining power. Nation-states are death cults

It should be available for everyone. Physician assisted suicide for anyone who wants it is humane. Forcing people to suffer endlessly for any reason is cruel.

Canadians have lost hope in the government's ability to deal with the housing crisis. If even middle-upper class people can't get a home, then what chances do the homeless have, A life of poverty? It's better for those who are suffering to have a choice rather than be forced to continue struggling with no end in sight

I worry that there will be even less incentive to support people if there is another way to just dispose of them. I firmly believe that governments are most passionate about money. Why even bother providing expensive support services to people when- if instead, they cut those services further, it will push people they don't want to look after anyway towards assisted suicide?

I reckon other countries will start to introduce assisted suicide programmes. Perhaps initially for the terminally/ chronically ill. That will save our governments money in health and nursing care. Then, maybe they'll start to consider severe mental health cases and the homeless.

Interesting question posed by @TAW122 a while back- would you become homeless in order to be considered eligible for assisted suicide?

I live in a large city in the US and there are so many homeless here. I pass them on my way to work every day and think to myself if I ever become homeless (I've been homeless before and know what it entails) I would certainly ctb somehow - even if it meant standing in front of a huge truck. Most of the people who are homeless here are mentally disabled - they suffer from a mental disorder, but there is no help or hope for them. It breaks my heart to see them. Some are too far gone to even think about ctb. No, if I became homeless I certainly would ctb.

Whilst I'm all for consensual euthanasia and think PAS should be a required practice that costs little to nothing I'm somewhat disturbed by the fact that Canadians would/are supporting this. It's atypical for the normal people to be happy with suicide/PAS and the only reason I can really think why they would be in favor is to remove homeless population which in all honesty is fucked up. Just goes to show how far humanity has turned their backs on the homeless, to the point where they would rather them be dead then have to see them :P.

Technically it would be since you have to just go homeless.

Also obviously cuz people just despise the homeless. Istg it feels like stray dogs get more love.

I don't think there's enough wealth in the world yet to support everyone, so yes. They shouldn't be forced though.

The political side of me laughs at liberal Canada that instead of establishing more socialism is euthanizing the poor.

I hate those articles. Get rid of MAID and the homeless are still there. Does no difference. I will always oppose the removal of MAID. Everyone should have the choice to die free of pain regardless of whatever.

i think it's a good idea. it should be an option. the issue of homelessness angers me a lot. it's something that i may have to face myself in the future. it could really happen to anyone, but sometimes it's easier to see coming, obviously.

personally i believe death is far superior to a homeless existence. even if the homelessness lasted only a few months, it's still better to be dead, in my view. the state of homelessness is a heinous insult and degradation of a human being.

the main hurdles to this idea are the cost for the drug and regulating the drug. but in principle i absolutely support the idea. it's way more realistic than the typical prolifer response "just give everyone homes!!" we know that shit is not happening. yes it would be nice if everyone had a home, that would be ideal. but when you're sitting out there in the cold and filth, you may well not have the patience to wait for that pipe dream to finally be realised.

Euthanasia should be avaliable for all not just people who meet a specific suffering criteria as the right to die is a human right, none of us are obligated to continue enduring this existence we were burdened with, it's disgusting how we all don't have the option to leave peacefully in a guaranteed way.

But I imagine so many homeless people would choose it if it was accessible for all, as homelessness sounds so horrific, it's such a hellish reality where such a thing as homelessness exists, existence is just too cruel.

Euthanasia must be available for anyone for any of their personal reasons. Generally speaking a peaceful and dignified method should be available for anyone who wants to leave this world.

I honestly don't know how people endure homelessness for years on end. If I were in that situation I would try to work up the courage to kill myself.

Correct. As long as it is the individual's choice and not forced by anyone. But discussing this is not going to have any impact or bring any change. This is just wishful thinking.

@Forever Sleep I wouldn't just become homeless just so I can access it on that alone. But if I ended up in a predicament such as homelessness itself, I would certainly wish to have that option available. In other words, if I really wanted death and that was the only way or somehow I made it into such a predicament, then I wouldn't mind having my suffering come to an end.

I think it's horrible. I'm for accessibility to MAID, but homeless people should be getting the help they need and not forced to choose between living on the streets and death. That's very dystopian. It's horrible that governments will leave them unhoused and suffering but will gladly put them down.
