Has anyone else heard of the Canadian government planning to offer euthanasia to those who are dealing with extreme poverty? They're apparently even planning on paying you to do so. I've not seen anything in the news about this, only this Youtube video from Sky News Australia:

I'd look into what the bill actually states is being legalized instead of watching a random YT video on it. This is just a clickbait video that has an agenda. It is a vigorous process to apply for MAiD and you have to meet a lot of criteria and be treatment-resistant. You also have to be evaluated by two separate doctors and be of sound mind.

I'm Canadian too and I agree with you, we're living in a banana republic. But if this bill is real, then I'll change my opinion and will be the first volunteer in that euthaniasia line.

Depends I guess. With MAiD you have a 100% chance of success, whereas no other method can guarantee that and you can't be intervened.

From what I'm reading about this, they've accepted cases of people with a non-terminal illness or handicap who can't afford their treatment and pay for housing anymore. So instead of ending sick and homeless, they're allowed to be euthanized. I guess those of us who are healthy and poor can't apply... for now. I think when it says the state will pay for their death, it probably means it will pay for the euthanasia, not that they send the person a check. I guess that's what the video has wrong.

Two homeless women call for assisted suicide in Canada due to lack of help. This same year another example has occurred in Canada, a country that legalized euthanasia in 2016. In just six years an aberrant situation has been reached: in recent months, two homeless women requested assisted suicide for living in a situation of poverty and lack support. What some considered exaggerated and the result of misplaced statements by pro-lifers has already happened. One of those women, Sophia, has already been granted assisted suicide and died on February 22. "The government sees me as expendable trash, a complainer, useless and a pain in the ass," she said before she died. This is what some call "progress."
The Canadian media CTN News commented on April 13: "She died after a frantic effort by friends, supporters and even her doctors to get her safe and affordable housing in Toronto. She also left behind letters showing a desperate two-year search for help, in which she begs local, provincial and federal officials for assistance in finding a home away from the smoke and chemicals wafting through her apartment," because the woman suffered from a severe sensitivity to chemicals.
The Canadian State and its desire to save money with euthanasia. On April 30, in a scathing article published in The Spectator, Yuan Yi Zhu, a research fellow at Oxford's Nuffield College, posted the following:
"Since last year, Canadian law, in all its majesty, has allowed both the rich as well as the poor to kill themselves if they are too poor to continue living with dignity. In fact, the ever-generous Canadian state will even pay for their deaths. What it will not do is spend money to allow them to live instead of killing themselves.

I don't care about this even if it was true. The people crying about this would do absolutely nothing if the poor came to their homes asking for stuff so why act like Jesus and be against them having the choice to die

If you would actually read the legislation you would understand that this is absolutely untrue.

There are incendiary articles being written about people who used MAID and qualified through a very rigorous process BECAUSE THEY WERE EXTREMELY SICK.

They also lived in poverty because welfare payments are much too low.
They were not homeless. That's false. They were suffering from an illness that makes them painfully sensitive to smells (smoke, perfume, cleaning supplies).
They wouldn't have found appropriate housing in the current Toronto rental market even with 10x as much income.

But the MAID legislation itself is not responsible for this. They are two different things.

MAID legislation in fact requires the assessor to make sure that ALL available supports (including appropriate housing) have been offered. You can't offer something that doesn't exist. In this case chemical free housing without neighbours.

The government that you are hating so much has also just tabled another piece of legislation that will increase social supports for people living with disabilities. It's expected to come into effect by end of 2022. Not enough, but it's a start.

But yeah. Go on. Watch click bait YT videos from right wing nut jobs. If that makes ya happy. 🤷‍♀️
Maybe the canadian government is allowing this to safe on welfare payments.
No, they are actually increasing welfare supports now because BOTH needs to be done.

Better access to MAID is a human right. But so is appropriate support for people living with disabilities.

And NO. You don't get paid to use MAID. The drugs required for receiving MAID are covered by provincial healthcare plans. Which makes it free for the patient. But nobody is getting paid to die for fucks sake!!
