Yes, it's dangerous, especially alone.

I think people are able to go too far with this because the combo kind of cancels itself out. Hard to explain, but sensation is both enhanced and dulled at the same time, so you don't register pain as much (or it's almost a pleasant sensation) but pleasure feels extra good.
