Venting downtime is crap

downtime is crap, wastes time, and distracts from thinking.

urgh, from 11:30utc to 14utc, SaSu was down, probably longer but I stopped checking.

side note, hours earlier, my site also went down (3h+) to wifi being less reliable somehow.

yesterday night (my time), even TheFlatEarthSociety went down for many minutes or longer... they got cloudflare added (thank goodness!) and also no longer lag.

It was down for a long, long time today. But it's been happening quite a bit the last few weeks.

I feel like the cloudflare settings can be hardened to block bots (like ai crawlers and more) that slow the site (just ensure that verified bots like search engines are allowed thru).

Note: I merely run a website behind cloudflare, not that I am affiliated with, or certified in managing cloudflare deployments.

SaSu is free to all of us and were free to donate i mean.
since its not a paid service we can't demand in a way like gief refund type of behavior.
since its free we can't urge the web admin to fix it or anything since they probally pay most of it out of their own pocket

it seemed to be a DNS issue (error 523) which could be solved with cloudflare tunnels (I've tried it because CGNAT doesn't support port forwarding), because cloudflare tunnels don't rely on having a static/stable IP, just an outbound connection)
