  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Some of them pay out after two years, even if it's a suicide. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of one that will pay out after a year?

This is much after your posting date but if someone else stumbles across this with the same question. Payout for suicide related death is normally 2 years as OP mentioned. Some payout after 1 year but from what I have found it depends on the policy, state…etc. There is however, a loophole to this if the death is by accidental overdose it is covered the day you buy your policy. There is really no way to prove that you intended to ctb with drugs. Even if it's a first time user you could argue it was their first time they didn't know how much was too much. And for a frequent user you could argue they took too much while under the influence. Fentanyl is perfect in this scenario because of how easy it truly is to accidentally overdose. Just a thought for those worried about insurance payouts due to your suicide

It is usually 2 yrs but depends on the policy and if thru employer
Mine is thru employer (I have my employer provided and an additional policy I pay for thru employer with an insurance company). My employer provided pays out for any reason. The additional I pay for thry ny employer has 2 yr contestibility and suicide clause. Read the fine lines in the policy detail.
If you purchased it on your own, it sometimes is a bit different. Any time they ask med questions when you apply, they really like to contest in any event.
I hope this makes some sense, lol. I'm literally hanging on for the 2 yrs, 1 down 1 to go

It also depends on state, there are some states that are shorter

I can't even get insurance as I told them I had fibromyalgia and they asked if I had the associated anxiety and depression that often goes with it. Yes I sure do. They turned me down.

I got turned down due to being on pain medication and depression. I tried 3 different companies.

That is so messed up. I'm sorry to hear that. Stories like this is why I refuse to get medical treatment. I've had fibromyalgia for years and I just don't pursue diagnosis anymore.

How far back do they look? I'm probably screwed with inpatient mental hospital stays from 5 years ago.

5-10 years, generally.

I know of life insurance in the EU that explicitly cover suicide after 1 year.

Not sure if that's relevant to anyone in this thread though

I worked for an insurance company and also for a bank. You have to be careful about omitting details when you take out insurance. If, for example, they discover that you had depression or some other disorder, they can legally not pay for omitting illnesses. It sucks, when I worked there I saw how many agents lied on their policies just to sell. It's a gross world. It is best to have life insurance earlier, when you are really healthy.
