Laborer at a thrift shop. Been furloughed since march because of the virus though so i'm pretty lucky not to have been out in public too much. Hope I can go back without much trouble since it's a tough job.

I technically have full time employment in the public service but my mental health has meant that over the past 12 months I've been absent more than working. I ran out of sick leave long ago and have been on unpaid leave, scraping by on income protection insurance and early release of superannuation on medical grounds.

My employers have been VERY supportive and basically told me to take as long as I need. They know I've attempted suicide in the past and I think they want to do all they can to help avoid me trying again and succeeding.

But I've had to take so much time off that I and my mental health team are starting to more seriously consider if I need to take the next step and formally resign and begin the process of going on a disability pension.

I REALLY want to avoid that. It feels like a big step in giving up and deciding I can't be well enough to function and I know that will speed up my suicidal ideation.

I've worked in sales before and been thinking recruitment might be a good fit for me.

Is it difficult to get into if not worked in recruitment specifically before?
Atm it's quite difficult to get into anything due to COVID and companies are reluctant to take on new staff. I got into it by luck as I did not have much experience in recruiting but in people management. I think it's quite difficult to land a job without an exp. it's like catch 22, how do you get exp if no one employs you .... stupid system

I was a paramedic but I lost my job in January due to my health and haven't worked since.
Sorry to hear that, did the job affect you?
I was a ambulance technician before I was a nurse. X
I am a nurse, have been qualified 10 years now, I had to give it up in 2018 due to my physical and mental health. I started back up again aug this year, but am now on sick leave again, for some reason really stressful incidents at work seem to find me!! And the people there will be like 'wow' I never had that happen and Iv been here 20years!! Where as I rock up and within 1st week have horrendous incident with patient.
people call me a shit magnet!! But this grounds me down and makes me paranoid x

I teach computer programming to children. I like teaching the kids but hate the scumminess of the for-profit company I work for that runs the program. They care way more about money than the kids. Currently working on my teaching degree to work in an Actual School but I'll probably ctb before getting my degree.

I work in a bank now. It kills my soul a little bit every day. It's not bad by any means, and they actually treat me very well. I think it's a job most people would actually enjoy having.

I devoted my life, though, to other pursuits. I earned a doctorate and taught at a university. For my life to take this step backwards is depressing to me. It's like I've lost everything I've ever worked to achieve.

Not worked full time for years , i have a problem remembering dates , name or anything nowadays , think it`s the meds ?
but in order
Market Gardener 9 years
Farmer 6 years
Then had two day work tiding a warehouse yard , some one was off sick and i was asked if i had ever worked in a warehouse , i said no but got offered a weeks work , i was amazed at how poorly ran it was and i ended up as warehouse manager , after sorting it out to run smoothly i got sent to the stores (16 in total) and sorted the shops out so i also became display manager , after a bitch manager got her nose put out she tried to complain about me medaling in her store , so i was promoted to Location Manager , meaning hat ever location i was in i was the manager lol , came with a nice pay rise and a company car though .
Long story short new chief exec came in and ruined the company , owner came back and fired him but damage was done .
then i was a painter and decorator
then a Handyman for a chain of breweries
then second break down and haven't worked for well over 10 years maybe more

Wow, now this Indie Game Developer has got to be fun. I'm a nerdish person. I fell in love with everquest back in 2000 and have played many rpg/mmorpg's. I still play everquest 2. I've been an alpha and beta tester many times. What types of games do you make?
It's pretty fun but very time consuming. I've been working on a top down shooter right now and have been for a year now.

Everquest is a great game and I used to be big into MMOs but I don't have the time for them anymore unfortunately.

I clean shit off of toilets for a living. Doesn't it sound great?

Unfortunately yes, I'm in Hotel Management and I'm an Indie Game Developer on the side.

Hopefully you can stay alive long enough to become a successful Indie Game Developer.

Everquest 2 isn't as demanding as eq1 was. It's not as good but it's something you can log in for an hour do something and log out. I wish I could design games thats got to be so much fun.

Thank you, I appreciate that. Having already made a few games, and assets for a few others, I already feel somewhat successful.

I'll be happy to finish my current project as it's definitely a labor of love. For me it's not really about money. It's more about just making art that'll outlive me.

We all have to make a living and I've had my share of shitty jobs. So I definitely feel for you

I never played EQ2, If it's more casual I might look into it. The problem for me nowadays is there are so many great games coming out at any given time and I want to play them all!

Stay at home parent is definitely a job. It does pay too, just in a different kind of way.

eq2 is MUCH more casual. I'd be willing to hook ya up with some plat and a pl if you wanted. Pantheon is looking good. I'm all mmorpg rpg type.

I took a year off about three years ago. It was the worst time of my life. I was forced out of my job that I loved though, and never really considered it to be actual work.

Things have gotten much better since that time, and I think I am lucky for how it has worked out for me to this point.

I work in Emergency Management Services to help mitigate possible disasters for all of the different regions of the United States.

I travel and have lived in hotels for the past two years now.

With what I currently do.. I do not consider it work either, the same as how I felt about nursing. It was a long arduous path to get myself here to where I am today. I am extremely lucky and I know it.

If I did not have the other problems I have...

I don't, and I never have. It's the biggest reason I want to ctb.
I don't think I'm cut out for retail/food service because I'm socially incompetent and anxious. I don't think I'd be able to handle the stress and abuse from customers. I'm way too fragile mentally.
The concept of job interviews terrify me, I wouldn't be able to convincingly lie and "sell" myself.
Plus the fact that I've never worked isn't exactly attractive to employers anyway. I'm stuck.

No I have been unemployed for some time now. Being and adult with responsibility didn't work out well for me. I failed at every job I had and they all made my mental and physical state worse.

I'm a software engineer. It's a good job, plus getting about 50%~ above the market in non capital. I hate work, having to do anything for a living, I just want to be in control of what I do day to day. I could travel then. But for that you need few million to inest and live off passive income.

I can't think of doing any other job except not working. Unless 10x more paying then I can retire in few years. But yeah... I still hate it every day, makes me suicial - just having to work at it. Even though now with covid I am fully remote at it, and even next years only go in for 1-2 days.

Plus It's extremely exhausting mentally. Have to process 10x more info than average daily, and make decisions for the smallest things. Decision making exhausts people, no matter how simple it is like choosing what to wear. Makes you not want to do anything else which requires any thinking. I have had a manual labour job for a year when I quit uni and managed to get into this, and mentally I was better - still suicidal since it's a job, but better, since I felt like I could do other things despite physical exhaustion. Mental exhaustion is worse, at least if you are depressed.

Never worked in my life. Fearful of adult life.
Im an adult, work is less fearful that some other adults.
I work in a little factory putting indicators on bmw s.
Quite a pointless job really
The folks at BMW think it is important enough to pay you. It is more than I do. Be proud of getting up and going going to work. It is an accomplishment.

I'm currently a certified pharmacy technician applying for jobs. Ironically, the last time I felt inclined to CTB I was doing an internship at a pharmacy which would have helped considering I needed some meds for the SN method, but I figured that if I failed, I wouldn't have anything good waiting for me.
