hello sasu, just for reference i am located in texas!

i plan to ctb with a firearm this week with my partner that i met off of this website, but i am kind of worried i won't be able to pass the background check to purchase the gun because when i was 17 i went to a psych ward (involuntary) and then i went to one when i was 19 as well (this one was voluntary)

would they still count the involuntary admission since i was a minor? am i deemed mentally unwell to purchase a gun because ive been?

any advice or suggestions? what do you guys think?

You would not pass the background check and you'd have to answer it honestly when it asks "have you ever been confined to a mental institution". Your best course of action would be to try an go for a private sale if you live in a state where background checks aren't required for private sales.

thank you so much for that. i've been looking online and have found quite a few unlicensed dealers that do not background check but i am really wanting to buy one at the store instead of possibly getting myself into a dangerous situation. if im not able to get a gun we plan to shoot ourselves at a gun range

That is one of the stupidest possible places to try to kill yourself.

They'll be on the look out every day for suspicious behavior and ready to stop anyone trying to shoot themselves or someone else. You're surrounded by people who will have first aid training and medical supplies on hand. They're going to call 911 instantly to try to save you in addition to any medical aid they provide themselves.

That's not to mention how you're going to traumatize everyone else at the gun range and even risk harming or killing them if you miss while aiming.

not to say you should put yourself in a dangerous situation, but if you are looking for a gun to kill yourself, isn't worrying about a hypothetical dangerous situation kind of inconsequential in the grand scheme of things?

i unfortunately don't believe you'll pass the background check, especially if you have very worrying diagnoses listed on your chart, like personality disorders or MDD.

Helpful tip for shooting yourself at the range. Take a few shots at the target. After each shot bring the gun barrel to the bottom of your head. Facing up. Then shoot the target a bit more. This makes it easier to get eyes off you for when to point it at yourself.

No, nobody wants to be SA'd etc before trying to CTB.

Gun laws where I am are too strict for that option.
If I could just get a hold of one I'd start making plans today.
