I have heard that in the future it will be possible to prolong lifespan. Some advances in medical technology will make this more feasible as time goes on. Eventually people may live hundreds of years due to (probably expensive) medical treatments to prolong life.
I wonder do we have the right to do so? Is it morally okay for those who can afford such treatments to live outrageously long lives while people who just want life to end have to suffer because euthanasia isn't legal? Why is it socially acceptable to prolong our lives (and our drain on earth) while those who want to opt out have to suffer?
I don't see why choosing to die is any less morally acceptable than choosing to live longer. Our society seems hyper-focused on living as long as possible and I kind of get it in a way but it's like they are blind to other perspectives. Just because they want to live longer, doesn't mean they should push it on the rest of society. Who are they to decide what's in the public's best interests?
I'm not saying everyone should be able to die whenever they want but I honestly think there should be a fair and proper process an adult of sound mind can take to do so after other avenues have been explored. A lot of countries have delved into this, it's not that hard of an idea to grasp yet many can't seem to contemplate it.
