do you think people even want a suicide note, or would they rather not know?

how do you know if anyone wants to know if you're dead or if they even care? it's hard to believe anyone would actually care about me dying and i'm worried that writing a suicide note is something selfish instead of something for their closure. i guess it makes them feeling better knowing that i did die, but maybe they'd forget about me if they never got a message from me ever again after i ghosted them. maybe they'd feel better knowing i really was dead. suicide and terminal illness are really the only time that you can tell people you're going to die. trying to parse whether i actually matter to people makes me stressed.

For me, a suicide note is personal. You should do it for you. Like it's literally one of the last things you will do, so you have all the right to think about yourself. Write it or not, it's because you choose to, not for other people.

There is no right or wrong answer to your question. But I would send notes only to folks who are definitely going to miss you/ wonder what happened. If you know someone would start looking for you in a day or two and maybe even worry, then consider a note. If people might not notice I was gone, for those people I would just let it be.

I think it depends on the likelihood of the person finding out about your suicide. If they find out, they might struggle to understand why or blame themselves, so a note can be helpful then to help them understand and alleviate their worries. But if there's little chance of them ever finding out what happened to you, it could be easier to stomach the idea that you just ghosted them or decided to go offline one day, rather than that you died.

In my note, I mention 'nonexistence is peace', inspired by @FuneralCry tho with my own reasons... can maybe add what directly and indirectly triggered CTB.

Whether u make a note, or what to include is ofc up to u.

They all say they want to know but most of them wouldn't be ready for what I truly want to say.
Which is why I won't leave anything other than generic good bye and such.

I have some old close friends who I haven't talked to in years / talk very little. Maybe they'd want to know, maybe they've forgotten about me and I would just be ruining their day by sending them a note.

I'm leaning towards setting up an autoreply on my social media accounts and setting it so only messages from certain people come through. If we are close enough for them to message unprompted, they probably deserve to know. And this way if people who don't care or have forgotten about me won't be bothered by me sending note.
