I think it will increase. There will be less religious people. More people will have access to internet and can find peaceful methods. Moreover the life expectancy will increase and the wish for assisted suicide will grow in democracies.
On the other hand with new technologies they will find better therapies. However I suppose that there is no cure for some illnesses.

I'm not sold on them developing better therapies. There is only so much you can do to mend the effects of ongoing alienation in a social animal. Only a tiny minority of people on this site feel loved, accepted, and supported by the people around them. You can't bottle real love and companionship. I don't like the idea of innocent people dying more than anybody else, but I think the death toll here is really society's just desserts. I hope all of these deaths cause problems for the economy, the government, and the selfish every-man-for-himself culture. I hope the assholes who brought us here wake up one day and find out they have no one else to abuse, just other dishonest and cruel shitheads like them.

It will increase as poverty increases. There are more shitty jobs out there with no benefits and it's competitive just to get a shitty job. I don't care what the news says about jobs going unfilled etc etc. It's that way at least where I am.

I think the media will not report the increased suicides. I think there's way more suicides in the world that don't get reported

Increase 100%, especially if climate change stays on its current trajectory. I know I'm almost certainly going to ctb if it continues. Knowing sea levels are rising and I could be part of a mass evacuation by the time I'm middle age. No thank you.

Yes, I am in totally agreeance with the increases!!! I no longer want to participate in the usual rat race of the working walking dead...I fucking refuse!!! Hell, I already walk around like an andriod type zombie due to my BiPolar disorder! According to the major statistical studies, my life span is already shorten by the very thing I so seek at this given time. What's the fucking point in continuing on a false journey?! I have accepted my ill fate with no foreseeable future for me as this placeholder that I am, whether it be finanically, emotionally, or spirtually...I'm just done..No epilogue...peace

It's been increasing the last ten years or so...does life look like it's getting better? It will increase...unless things get so bad that people are drawn together, such as in wartime.

They is nothing new in the sun. I think there will be periods of fluctuation. There will be booms and busts, political turmoil, unforeseen events, and all other disasters.

If the government has fixed wealth income gap, universal healthcare, respected human rights, found to cure diseases, and other essential societal changes, there will be less suicide. Then again, if we count easier access to euthanasia and assisted suicide for those with terminal illness or with mental illness in the future, then it will increase.

We have to account the religiosity. Since the Western culture is increasingly secular, we may see a lot more people die by suicide.

It's getting unpredictable now, but if I had to guess, it would be increase in suicide cases, but with fluctuation.

Idk. I think all of the factors you cite are important, but I think our culture as a whole has really deteriorated now. People have no real sense of community in most places. Humans aren't meant to live like this.

It is increasing every year where I live. This world is cruel and many people have such low quality of life and this will continue into the future. This life holds unlimited potential for suffering. The amount of people who get euthanasia will increase over time as more countries are legalising it.

Probably increase with the amount of insecurity dealing with social media. No one ever feels like they're good enough and its only increasing with each generation. Also the cost of living is becoming too expensive. It's almost impossible to make a decent living today. That's why most are turning to fast money. Even if I wasn't depressed and suicidal no way would I want any child of mine growing up in this world which is only getting worse.

It's been increasing for the past several years, the cruel reality of the world is being increasingly exposed, and society still has no interest in answering the mental health question with anything other than "off to the psych ward". The graph will only get steeper.

If there are no social changes in the future, the number of cases will definitely increase.

There are fewer and fewer people who own more and more, and thus more and more poverty and poor living conditions.

Resources are also becoming increasingly scarce - with an increasing population - which will lead to a further deterioration in living conditions.

The tipping point for jobs in the world being done by humans against automation/robots is here. Govts around world are looking at what that will mean. Do they pay people a basic wage without working? They dont know. There will be major shifts in lifestyles. Self driving cars. Space tourism. Automated stores. Preconstructed housing with minimum manpower. This is either going to mean less suicides due to more leisure time for us or more suicides due to no work to keep us occupied. I think it will get worse even if it then gets better.

Depends on the choices we make as a society. I see several trends pointing in both directions, some pointing to higher rates and some to lower rates:
- Increased education and access to knowledge - higher rates
- Decreased adherence to traditional values and religion - higher rates
- Increased wealth inequality and manufacturing automation causing despair - higher
- Increased standards of living due to technological progress: lower
- Increased social acceptance of minority groups in many places leads to lower rates (and areas backsliding into cultural conflict would see higher rates)
- Climate change crisis - higher rates

Even if most developed nations really do start upping social safety nets due to the increase of automated jobs, there will be a transitional period for probably several years that just sees a lot of people lose their livelihoods without that net developed and that will lead to an increase. I do think it'll decrease if the net does develop to the point where living comfortably without being forced to work actually happens though, but the cynic in me truly believes the elite of the world will by and large leave us to die if I'm being brutally honest.

Elites will want to protect their own wealth, but not at the cost of the entire planet (at least, not when that choice stares them directly in the face). Capitalism has reformed itself once before during the Depression (from that we got social democracy), and perhaps the next catastrophe will lead to more reform to keep the system afloat. (Not COVID, since it seems that economies will sooner or later reemerge the same once restrictions are dropped.)

I can't predict the future, though.

Listen you can believe me or not, it's up to you. But I'll tell you what's coming but I'm not going to tell you why in detail, it's too long winded, I've been watching this for months, and this IS deadly serious.

1) In the very near future, i.e. the next 2 months food shortages will become apparent. And when I say food shortages I don't mean McDs have run out of sausage muffins, I mean you'll go to your local store and there will be literally no food in it. So if you want to live stock up now with canned goods and rice and pasta, non perishable goods.

2) The Stock market will get hammered, because as soon as food is short inflation will go through the roof. You've heard the stories of how in Germany before ww2 they needed a wheelbarrow of cash to buy a loaf of bread - well that's coming.

3) In the Autumn/Winter deaths will go through the roof, they'll say it is the flu/covid/unvaxxed/vaxxed/ who knows, but that health crisis is also on it's way. Make no mistake deaths will be the highest ever. Not only is there a shortage of food, and building materials and steel, but medicines too.

4) There will also be power outages and even internet downtime.

I know a lot of you will think I'm a doomster, but think of it like this:

Imagine you bought 300 cans of baked beans 50 large packs of pasta, and 50 large packs of rice and 125 large cans of tuna. Imagine I'm wrong. What's the worst that can happen?

They won't go off, you can eat them anyway over the next 2 or 3 years. If you're worried they might go off you can sell them on eBay.

But if I'm right then you're going to need them just to survive.

Source [without long winded explanation] - shipping forums and news, agricultural forums and news, military forums and news, business forums and news (relating specifically to cost of shipping goods now - from $1000 to $20,000 for a 40ft container), crop failures in US, Russia, Kazakhstan (9th largest exported of wheat in the world, who are keeping it all to feed their people - no livestock left, all dead from no animal feed), crops dead in fields of 10's of thousands of Indian farmers due to lockdown, crops in Europe rotting in fields due to no steel to make cans to pack food, US govt paying farmers 150% of value of crops to destroy them, otherwise no subsidies next year, same in Uk, etc, etc, etc.

It sounds mad - but this is happening RIGHT NOW - don't believe me - go ask some farmers. Some are so pissed off they've posted the actual US govt documents online showing the instructions of what to destroy, how to do it, and how to report it and claim the money.

Don't just blow this off, GO AND LOOK - IT MIGHT SAVE YOUR LIFE (although that's an odd thing to say on a suicide forum).

But still, don't just dis it, go and LOOK and LEARN.

The world you *think* you live in is totally false, you're living on the sugar coated top of it. When the sugar runs out you're sinking into the rotten core.

And it is literally 2 to a maximum of 3 months away.

I think it depends on how the world wide economic situation develops. If society stops expecting us to be wage slaves, then I'd imagine it'd go down.

If the discrepancy between rich and poor keeps increasing with increasing rent and other expenses, the suicide rate is definitely increasing.
