personally no, and anyone who says it is is incredibly ignorant to all the suffering out there.

Life is not a gift, to many it's hell on earth. And that's just counting humans. Then there's the numerous animals that are suffering daily.

No life is not a gift. The universe does not care whether you live or die, it is not even aware of your existence because it is not alive. Life just happened to form on this planet, it is not a gift from anyone and it not an inherently good thing seeing how many are born into suffering.

The people who say "life is a gift" have never been tortured to the point where they prayed to just die. They have never been forced to make any REAL life & death decisions. So to them, life is just one big party. They've never been broke, hungry, homeless, addicted, bought or sold, lost, alone, or terrified.

I do think that being brought into this world is one of the most unfair things that can happen to a person. Being alive is a big deal, and it demands a lot from a person. And being alive also potentially exposes each and every one of us to a boatload of possible miseries, injustices, insults, demands, etc.

If you are wealthy, healthy, good-looking, have steady income, are slightly more tall, intelligent, strong or beautiful than the rest of the humanity, have your basic needs including sex covered, your life is a gift. If you are poor, sickly, ugly, unemployed, your attributes are below average or you are extremely tall, intelligent, strong or beautiful or you lack your basic needs covered, including involuntary celibacy, your life is a curse.

My life was a gift to me in 2022. 2022 was the biggest gift it was ever given. 2022 was so nice and nostalgic and even a holiday was included. But as soon as 2023 started... My life became boring, a bunch of bastards became bullying me, and I was very depressed, and I can't say anything has changed. 2023 is a cursed year for me.

Never, I find it repulsive when life is referred to as a "gift", I think it's such a terrible and undesirable burden having the ability to suffer endlessly in this hellish reality, existence itself truly is something that disgusts me, it disgusts me how this cycle of endless suffering and senseless cruelty continues, it's so tragic how existence has caused so much unnecessary torture to be experienced all throughout history. Only nothingness is acceptable for me, existence itself is something very evil, I could never see suffering as being justified.

Nope, at least for me it isnt. Lots of people find it as a gift, when they realize that i'm suicidal they tell me to enjoy everything that life has to offer and that life is a gift that you should be grateful for without knowing of my problems. I mean, on the outside, i seem very well off but my father ruined everything for me so i don't see anything else but ctb for myself.

I mean human life is a gift for the rich economic/politic elite. They can do what they wish in life. That's why they push this suicide prevention, pro-natalism and human population collapse scare.
For the average human it's like being born in an invisible farm as cattle.

Agreed! They just want more people alive who they can exploit by overworking and underpaying.

No, it isn't, it's a continous game of Russian roulette where even the currently most successful players can lose hard at any time. If you want just one example, just look at the Junko Furuta case. I'm sure that before she was kidnapped she was satisfied with her life, or at least she was average, meaning she didn't have it too good, but not too bad either. Yet look at how horrible her ultimate fate was. Yes, she is (fortunately) an extreme and rare case, but the point is simply that life is a gamble where you never know what could happen to you. And while positive results are obviously a possibility, it doesn't change that we aren't meant to be consistently satisfied, that even when we have it good it's very likely that either the pleasure making our life good will end, or that we'll get so used to it that it won't be special anymore, leading to new desires and addictions, all the while always being vulnerable to the worst things life can throw at you. Sounds more like a curse than a gift, especially when you consider not only that suffering is easy, while happiness is hard on top of not being guaranteed, but that suffering is more powerful than pleasure:

However, this too seems to be at odds with the evidence. In a recent review of a wide range of findings in psychology (not exclusively focused on pleasure and pain), Baumeister et al. concluded, "Taken together, these findings suggest that bad is stronger than good, as a general principle across a broad range of psychological phenomena,".

And that's why non-esistence is ultimately more efficient, more logical, and better: the dead and the unborn can't be deprived of the goods of life, but the living can not only not have all their needs met, they will always be vulnerable to harm, including horrific suffering/torture, and some of them will suffer so much that they'll wish to be dead.

Not all gifts are good for everyone. Some gifts are horrible. But guess what? If you don't like or want the gift, you can always dispose of it on your own terms! Sure, you might upset others when they find out the gift they thoughtlessly gave you you didn't keep, but they have no right to force you to keep it.

If anything, think that calling life a gift is a good analogy, and a good analogy especially in regards to right to die. Do you get locked up and tortured (legally) for throwing out or attempting to throw out stuff that has been gifted to you normally? No? Then let us dispose of this gift peacefully. We don't need or want it.

I think it's pretty incredible how I'm even thinking right now. Millions of years of evolution allowed me to have a consciousness, something we still don't really understand. It's crazy how chemicals and electrical signals in my brain allow me to perceive emotions, be self aware, and think deeply. I think life is a gift for those who want it.

If that's the case why do you decide not to ctb? Sorry if that question is too personal, I'm brand new to the forum and am struggling to come to terms with the fact that I'm feeling suicidal. Seeing people with so much time spent on here without themselves choosing to ctb makes me feel a bit more normal because I do not want to die, yet I hate existing and just want it all to end.

I don't think it's a universal statement that should be applied to everyone. I definitely don't like it when it is forced down our throats. Neither do I agree when people say that the 'truth' of the matter is that life is basically bad.

It's about personal experience at the end of the day. If people want to be grateful for their OWN life and see it as a gift- let them. If people want to resent being given life to begin with and see it as a curse- let them. They've come to those conclusions according to their own personal experiences. It's invalidating in BOTH directions to stipulate that you know the truth about life itself!

Life itself is subject to variables. People have varying levels of tolerance and they hold their own beliefs. If someone has an objectively shit life- yet- they STILL see it as precious- who are you to question them? It's their life. Same goes for the reverse. We all find it irritating I expect when people tell us how grateful we should be for the gift that is life. Live and let live. Live and let die!

Whether life is a gift or not is a totally personal definition. Probably only humans are thinking about this as we think about so many other stuff unlike animals.

"Life" can come into existence throughout the universe when the circumstances are given. "Life" itself is part of the evolution of the universe itself but has nothing to do with a "gift".

I don't know what made you think that suicide is easy and I'm not sure how asking this relates to the original question the op asked, but I made a thread about this subject which explains it as people (usually people who are new to this site) often ask this question. Sorry but suicide isn't as easy as just choosing to be gone, people cannot just od on random pills.

Life itself is simply that, life. It is neither inherently good nor evil, and we each experience it differently. It does appear to be special in terms of it doesn't exist everywhere in the universe, at least as we know it. But all that doesn't take away the reality that people are suffering on a daily basis, in many different ways. To me, life does give us choices. (Admittedly, they are often taken away by the choices of others.) But in those choices, we can decide to continue on with hope or fear that tomorrow will be different, or to leave in search of what comes next.
