People say that but they still won't let people who don't contribute (in an economic sense) CTB easily. People who choose suicide would still be an absolute minority and the economic systems would still be intact. So I'm not convinced about that.
Unemployed people are actually an important part of wageslavery. It's pretty weird when you think about it: idle hands not offered work, even though they want to. Unemployment's actually unique to wageslavery, except during natural disasters and wars
Federal Reserve chairs sometimes
explain why: scares the worker drones. And makes them compete for jobs. Unless you're in a rich family, unemployment isn't allowed to be freedom
Highschool students in the US have a
suicide attempt rate of 8.9%, so we're not too uncommon
I was curious for other factors, even in non-wageslave societies. So I looked up
some articles and
a book. Not from psychology/psychiatry, which treat suicide as an individual matter
So far, all the lit I found focuses on the suicidal -- not those banning it. But they say something interesting: suicide is often a kind of protest. And I just realized: classical western philosophy started with Socrates's spectacular suicide, after a court found him guilty corrupting minors and breaking state taboos. And anyone in his society could become a slave -- including Plato. So suicide can be dangerous for those in power
