• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Okay so im new to this but i had a question and i can't really ask people i know because i dont want them to suspect that something might be going on. Im a christian and recently i've been really suicidal but the only thing really holding me back is the fear that I'll go to hell. I don't know too much about this and I was wondering what other people think about this. Do you think if you kill your self you automatically go to hell? or is there a chance to still get into heaven?

in judaism, christianity, and islam, yes, you automatically go to hell.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17:
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple."

I don't think that verse means you go to Hell lol. Suicide is a sin but I doubt that it alone guarantees Hell.

Yeah there is so much more weight to the action there if you are Christian or Muslim.

The established Christian position (ie consistent among Catholics, the Orthodox, and mainline Protestants) is that it's an offense against God. "Thou shalt not kill" includes yourself. An often cited verse is in 1 Corinthians, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person." In practice, while a church may declare someone who had died to be a saint in heaven it does not declare anyone to be in hell for any reason - that is ultimately between the person and God.

Islam seems to go further, there is a Hadith that goes: "Whoever throws himself down from a mountain and kills himself will be throwing himself down in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever. Whoever drinks poison and kills himself will be sipping it in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever. Whoever kills himself with a piece of iron will have that iron in his hand, thrusting it into his belly in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever."

Don't believe the bs. Hell is just an anology to keep you under control. We are currently living in the worse possible life there is, aka "Hell".

And most people just want you (us) to continue suffering like them.

Do not be afraid of the unknown.

That's your interpretation of that scripture. The gift of salvation is free, and we're saved by faith and not by merit. But still, ideally I think God wouldn't want us to get to that point regardless if he'll forgive us.

Personally I don't think God would send us to hell over suicide, but I do think that it should be the very last option. I am at the point in my life where even cooking in an oven would be better than my heart and my mind are right now, and unfortunately I can't do it and let you know where I end up or I would.

Suicide in christianity has become a subject of debate, there really is no explicit suicide=hell in the scriptures but everyone agree is a sin some people believe you go straight to hell, others believe no matter what as long as you believe in jesus you are forgiven, i am agnostic but i was raised catholic and in catholicism it is believed by most that the act of suicide leads to limbo/purgatory until your soul is cleaned and god calls you to heaven

As all the abrahamic religions says : yes you do go to hell
It's a sin in Judaism, but Jews don't really have as intense a concept of hell as the other two. I think it's really mainly a problem if you're Christian or Muslim, or maybe Buddhist (because of the karma from the suffering your death might cause unto others).

I'm not trying to convince you. Buddy I'm literally losing my whole world, and killing myself might be the only freedom I get literally. But personally I think God wouldn't send us to hell for committing suicide. But if he would... Then we're already in hell, so I wouldn't really let that bring you down.

If hell is the worst thing that can happen to you,
And going to heaven and actually having your maker hold you and welcome you home is the greatest?

I guess I want to go home.

The Bible nowhere explicitly states, "it is a sin to commit suicide," but the Bible does condemn murder (Exodus 20:13). Suicide is "self-murder," therefore suicide is a sin since murder is a sin. Aside from that, suicide is also a sin for the following two reasons, one theological and one practical: (1) it is God and God alone who has the right to determine life and death, and (2) suicide reveals a belief that God is not powerful enough to help you solve your problems.

Will you automatically go to hell because of ctbing? No, because Jesus died for ALL of our sins. When God purchased us with the blood of Christ, ALL of our sins were paid for (1 Peter 1:19). If a person who has truly received Jesus Christ as Savior, thereby demonstrating that he/she has been redeemed, reconciled, forgiven, justified, etc., by God, commits suicide, the sin of suicide was covered by the blood of Christ. Now, we can question whether a true Christian could commit suicide, but, if a true Christian were to commit suicide, it would be forgiven.

Not sure about Islam, but in Christianism it seems to me more like a theological construct rather than something that's actually in Scripture.

Imo abrahamic religions invented that idea so poor people aka fodder for armies/farmers/workers working for little to no pay or just ppl to control and get money from wouldn't kill themselves. If there 1. is a god, 2. that god is all-loving, then logically they wouldn't condemn people to suffer insurmountable conditions to only then suffer for eternity. If a child is abused, beaten and raped, and after years of this torment kills themselves, should they suffer for eternity?

Religion is control, plain and simple. And the ultimate form of control is convincing people they don't even have a choice over when they are allowed to die.

depends on what kind of christian you are, you may get different answers depending on who you ask

regarding catholicism at least, the tldr is that the sin on its own without context is grave enough to send you to hell but there is, regardless, still hope for souls who go through with it, and that they can and should be prayed for. testing that hope is not recommended though...

I don't know but realistically, if God prefers the company of (supposedly) repentent murderers, rapists, child molestors- heaven isn't sounding so appealing either. Some of the kindest people I've known have been atheists. If I see them in hell, at least I'll have good company!

I've not been able to find it since but, I once saw a YouTube video that described the Christian idea of suicides going to hell becoming very prominent at a certain period. When labourers in the fields were so exhausted from slaving away that they were offing themselves in inconvenient numbers.

Hell is a good deterrent for a lot of socially undesirable behaviour, including suicide. Perhaps it does exist but there again, it could just as easily be made up to frighten people into complying.

Who do you suppose wrote the holy texts? People rich enough to know how to read and write. What's to stop them sneaking in a few rules and interpretations that benefit them?

Besides, I'm not convinced I'd get to heaven- regardless of whether I suicide or not. I haven't lived a massively sinful life but, I don't like God. (If there even is one.) I imagine that alone is enough to condemn me. Like I say though- I'm not sure I even want to be a part of that 'club'. I imagine there are plenty of so-called religious people who I wouldn't want to be around.

It would feel hypocritical for me to suck up to God and pointless too. Seeing as an all knowing being already knows what I think about them.

According to Worldmeter there was about 1.1 or 1.2 million suicides last year (2024) but Google will give a low answer like 7000-800,000 still for some reason….

why not? if you don't mind me asking
well, i don't like going down this rabbithole. so first of all let me say i respect Christianity very much.
but honestly, it was only when i left christianity (years ago) that many things started getting better for me.
all the things i had been praying for for years, suddenly came to me, but only when i stopped living by the Bible.

so i don't see how those prayers could have been fulfilled by God, if they only got fulfilled once i stopped being religious.

i have many buddhist friends also. to my understanding the bible says everyone who isn't christian will burn in hell forever.
i can't imagine my friends burning in hell simply for being born in a country where the majority is buddhist.
they might have no idea about christianity whatsoever... do they deserve to burn in hell for that?
i don't think so.

but see, i said i didn't wanna go down this rabbit hole. i don't know, man.........

i'm not here to change anyone's mind or anything like that.

i'm an agnostic. and cultural christian.
