Discussion Do you consider yourself a pessimist or, a realist? Poll

To what degree do you think your view of the world matches its reality?

I'd say I lean towards pessimism but I feel like there's enough evidence to show I'm probably accurate in a fair bit of how I feel.

I would like to choose "More of a pessimist" AND "More of a realist". Why?

In my case, it's very realistic that too much optimism won't lead anywhere due to many factors (e.g. age, no skills, just to name the most relevant ones).

Maybe "Total realist" bc realistically I have no chance to recover from my big failure in life anymore. But that would also end up in "More of a pessimist".

I think it really depends. There are multiple "parts" of me, I feel, and the "sick" parts are pessimistic (and honestly kind of deluded). The other parts are smaller but are optimistic.

I don't know, I think it depends on the situation.

Mixed bag as it is, I think I fall in line with what could be described as depressive realism, that oscillating intermingling of both pessimism and realism. But I offer no concrete definition of what that means.
