I want to die by the co2 in a garage trick, but i remember reading something years ago that modern cars have been engineered in a way to not release as much co2 or something. i dont know a lick about cars, i just know if i put it in my garage and run the engine on, historically this has been shown to cause co2 poisoning. is it still feasible with modern cars or no?

Not as I understand it. I think it's due to the catalytic converter.

thank you for4 your response. so what would the result be if i were to sit in a modern car in my garage with the engine running? not a damn thing except my battery being wasted?

The heat and exhaust will be most unpleasant and you'll likely wind up with a hell of a headache, but you'll still be alive.

Presumably. I'm no expert but there is information online about catalytic converters and suicide prevention.

Of course modern cars still produce C02. They are still burning fuel. Though if you happen to have Tesla this might not go down so well.

only about 10% of exhaust fumes are co2, the rest is regular air, soot and volatile organic nasties. don't bother, you will feel awful and probably not die.

If you have a very small and enclosed space, a lawn mower will still emit enough CO, but it may take a while for there to be enough build-up. The smaller the space, and the more airtight it is, the better.

My uncle took his own life by running the pipe from the vacuum cleaner from the car exhaust through to the back window, with the gap blocked with an item of clothing. He was out in the woods so not in an enclosed space. Until that happened I had believed it was impossible to do with modern cars, but clearly not. The coroner said he did not suffer.

My mother's cousin killed himself by running a hose from his exhaust pie. But this was in the late 60's.

I have a honda 2006, would this work if I clogged the tail pipe with something and slept with the window up tight and car running?

CO2 is carbon dioxide, the stuff we breathe out. CO is carbon monoxide.

Cars with catalytic converters will still produce CO, but it takes a bit longer than older cars that are pre-catalytic converter. I used to have a secondhand, 80s model car, in the 90s, that had a catalytic converter. I believe they can go back as far as the 70s, being fitted in some cars. You'd have to do your research.

There are still cases of people who have successfully CTB with modern cars running inside a garage, however.

I don't see why not, maybe it'd take longer?

I have no clue but sounds like something might implode. Use a tube to bring it to the window?

What sorcery is this, sounds awesome for the environment except for us & trees might love CO?

The difference between carbon dioxide, CO2, and carbon monoxide, CO. CO2 means 1 carbon, 2 oxygen. Carbon monoxide means 1 Carbon, 1 oxygen.

Here's a neat little video:

Carbon monoxide and what it does to your body. We do not breathe out carbon monoxide.

Hypercapnic response from too much carbon dioxide. Not a pleasant way to go. Say, if you taped a plastic bag over your head, eventually there's an automatic sense of panic as CO2 builds up. Our bodies naturally exhale carbon dioxide. No hypercapnic reaction to carbon monoxide.

Yeah my body hate bags...
Wow CO is way more toxic faster!
