Do you think the people who try and stop our suicides really care if we do it or not?

I have seen mental health care workers cry over patients who died by suicide. I think they care and also have to have some boundaries to survive. I feel like my therapist cares, but that while she would be saddened by my suicide, maybe even cry and lose a bit of sleep, it wouldn't be life altering for her.

Depends on the therapist. Iv had ones cry when I explain being abused by my mum then raped at 16. Others don't flinch.

Yes, they do. I can't imagine for one blessed second that anyone would look after our lot for just a paycheque. So yes, they become involved, they care.

I've had empathetic therapists, but being real life friends with them would've done more good for me. Sadly, that's not possible. You get an hour a week and then it's back to your own private Hell.

How did the therapists find out their patient died by suicide?

From my experience I think it depends. Since the only barrier to becoming one is passing classes/competing training, anyone can become one. This includes narcissists and self-centered people, as well as kind, genuine, and caring people.

Fortunately we have the option to keep looking until we find someone that fits. It can be an incredibly exhausting process going from one to another, but it's worth it when you find someone who is what you're looking for.

For example I saw a psychiatrist who didn't listen to what I had to say, and pushed medication on me that I had a bad reaction to. Even when I was having an awful reaction well past the adjustment period she insisted I keep taking it. She talked down to me and insisted she was right reguardless of what I said. She made me demoralized and distrusting of psychiatrists.

However I just started seeing a new psychiatrist who actually listens to me, never pushed anything, and allows me to have complete control over my medical decisions. He genuinely is trying to help and it shows.

I'm still working on finding a psychologist that fits me well. I've had some that seem annoyed by me and talked down to me, but also some who genuinely cared, even if they couldn't help. One I really liked even cried when I had a positive breakthrough after a lot of work. There were a lot of things she couldn't help me with but she was clearly trying her best. I unfortunately had to stop seeing her due to other circumstances and have been looking for someone else and it's been a frustrating process but I'm going to keep looking.

It's easy to get demoralized by this process, I have many times. Fortunatley I think I finally found a decent psychiatrist. I'm still feeling demoralized by my recent experience with psychologists, but I'm still trying. I wish there was an easier way to find those who actually care instead of trial and error, but it's worth it too keep looking for those who do.

I wouldn't say they care, but they can be affected. I know a couple of therapists as acquaintances. Any time I talk to them about their job, they talk about how mentally draining it is to have to give therapy. I honestly think if you're the kind of person who finds listening to others mentally draining, you shouldn't be a therapist. It will only make your patients feel worse if they sense that you are getting drained by them.

Yes, I believe most if not all care. I am also sure they hold back a little to protect themselves emotionally if things go poorly.

It depends. Some actually do and are tortured by it. Some find actual meaning in trying to help others. And with everything else there's the jaded types they'll openly gossip about patients. It's just another wagie hussle for them. They might as well be running a mango stand.

The ones I had were lousy and didn't give a fuck about me. Bad mental health workers are the worst. If you have had or have a good one then you are very lucky.

I think they have a professional obligation to "care". Whether they actually care on a personal level depends on the individual.

Most do not care at all and just see it as a profitable profession i would also say they are to blame for most unnecessary treatment & prescriptions that cause more harm then good .

I do not know, I believe that most probably don't, most people only care about what directly affects themselves. People are very selfish and that is just the way humans are.

Most don't, they are there to feel good about themselves for helping "unfortunate" people they look down on or are there for the paycheck. These types are the ones that don't listen and just push the same cookie cutter treatments and always think they know better than the "patient."

Some really do care, and they can be the most effective in actually helping people if they know what they're doing, but they most likely don't make it for very long in the industry.

I want to say no because I'm in a shitty mood but truth be told a lot of them do.

They're often misguided and with poor info and due to a lack of full understanding in mental health I'm today's age they often will make the wrong approach or come off insensitive. But that's just because they don't know better.

Depends, the people themselves may or may not care about us it really depends on the quality of their person. The system however doesn't give two shits about us, it's very harmful actually.

No. Not in my experience. It would be difficult if not actually impossible to care about all of their patients. I just hate that they lie and use the "I care about you" line and other similar lines as tools to get you to be vulnerable and open up.

From what I've experienced I feel like it's mostly the nurses I've come into contact with that form some type of relationship with there patients in psychiatric hospitals tend to be the ones that mostly show some emotional sympathy/empathy. There the ones that really inspired me to move forward or showed me some direction through they're personality in some type of way. Psychologist and psychiatrist i have never really felt like they understand my emotional turmoil, or any of my mental health problems. the nurses were the ones doing all the work showing us how to cope, I always believed they should be the doctors, prescribers not the other way around! But looking for mentors that fit what your into can be A HUGE help!

In my personal experience, I'd say no they don't really care. I've seen about 9 different health care counselors in a 25 year period. Only 1 of them seemed to genuinely care.

I never really had good experiences with mental health workers, but a tiny part of me hopes that they do care. Like they do care, but only know the pro-life view that they have been taught.

I have asked medical staff on why they think they are helping me. I always ask them, what happens if someone doesn't want to go into debt from all the bills.

I have this gripe with forced hospitalizations, I don't want their "help" but I still have to pay for it. It just feels like making money off suffering. Reminds me of how in my place, funerals charge so much because they can get away with it.

But even with my dumb hopeful view, the reality is that the most unempathetic people I have ever met are those in the mental health field. I have become so cynical that I find it hard to believe that they aren't in it for the money. I don't claim to know as much as a professional would, but the amount of boxing people into labels without much reason annoys me.

Not to mention that most medical staff have little to no understanding of the LGBTQ+ community. Constant misgendering and snide comments were sadly common in places I was staying at.

And then there are those that should become motivational speakers instead with how much default feel good words they spew.

(And f**k how expensive some of the meds are)
