Tl;Dr: I want to experience the flash of memories I've always heard abt when you die, but will shooting myself with a shotgun destroy my brain too quickly and thereby I don't see the memories flash?

Quick disclaimer I've never used a forum style website before so forgive me for any formatting or tagging issues.
Anyways, I have kind of a specific question that I can't rlly find an answer to. I'll give some backstory just in case anyone is curious as to how I got to this question.
I met the most amazing most perfect girl you could ever imagine. I know everyone says that but I truly believe(d) that nothing will ever make me feel as happy as she did. Not drugs, or s/h, or anything else. I was with her for a long time and even best friends before we dated.
But eventually towards the end of our relationship I did some things that made me go to the hospital and get diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I (due to my own constant mistakes) lost my car, my cat, my house, my job, and my gf all in a 9 month span. It's not a question of if I want to make the decision I'm going to make; it's more I want to know the consequences. I want to spend more time with my girlfriend and the only way I can do that is through memories. If I shoot myself with a shotgun will I get to see a flashback of all the happy memories I made with her?
And a second more moral question if I pinky promised her I'd never hurt myself do you think it's morally wrong to ignore that pinky promise since she doesn't want me now anyway? I know pinky promises sound childish, but they were a big part of our relationship and I always honored them previously. Super nervous about posting this and if anyone did read I appreciate it and again sorry if made the post incorrectly.

You have my sympathy, friend. To give my thoughts on your question about these "memory flashes," even if it is true that the brain shows some sort of rapid, mental montage of "life highlights" in the milliseconds before a person physically dies (I don't think this "life flashing before your eyes" concept itself has ever been proven to occur in that specific "montage" manner, though it is a trope in fictional media), I'm not confident that the human mind would be able to initiate this flash of memory faster than the explosion of shot that would tearing through it from a shotgun blast. It wouldn't have time to process that death is imminent because the processor for that to happen (the mind) would be destroyed the moment the trigger is pulled.

I was dead for 5 minutes. No flashes no angles singing no tunnel no heaven or hell no devil no dead friends and relatives waiting with open arms. NOTHING but soft sweet darkness. I hope you find what you are looking for but I personally, and this is just my experience, don't believe you will find that in death

Sounds like perfect peace. This made me feel so nice, I almost prefer this than to the idea of an afterlife. Thank you for sharing this.

I remember reading an article (can't remember where unfortunately) where a patient had died during a brain scan. Obviously, while distressing- it was fascinating for the medical staff/ scientists to observe, that- just before death, parts of the brain associated with memory lit up. So- maybe that does suggest we experience flashbacks.

I wonder if it would depend on the type of death though. Just the same as those revived from near death don't all report NDE type visions.

I suppose I would wonder whether a firearm death- being so quick presumably- would allow the brain the time to die and run through its final functions. That's a layperson's guess though. I don't truly know at all.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry life has brought you to this point.

There are times when I'm especially distraught that a memory will pop up of something I haven't thought about in forever. So I wonder if there will be a flood too.
Insomnia will bring me false memories. Last night I woke up around 4 AM and I was sure that I had once tested that showed cancer in my heart and lungs. I'm obviously not doing anything about it because it isn't true, but I was convinced it was real. For hours. I was falling asleep and waking back up and still worried. At some point, I even knew it was fake and couldn't shake it still. My brain is gone. It's so sad.

from what i remember reading, i think this happens when the brain is physically intact and the cells are dying/releasing all chemical energy at once
