Anyone here have a DNR order? Would having this eliminate the possibility of being "revived" and not risk surviving and being in a vegetative state?

They'll just say they were in a rush to handle you because you were coding. They won't give a damn about the dnr. That's more for if you need life support or icu care after they save you.

If you appear to be in decent health and especially if you're ~50 or under (or appear as such), any EMT or medic will save you first and disregard the DNR. They are taught to err on the side of life-saving. Sometimes they will attempt to contact the physician on the DNR order, but not usually before a patient has been brought to the ER.

Yes, they are definitely honored in hospice care. Many hospices even require them.

Many local areas have their own rules. When my aunt was in hospice care, they had the DNR posted above the bed. Made no difference, they revived her anyway.

Turns out, in order for the DNR to be honored in her location, she would have had to file a copy with the local ambulance service, who would have given her a special bracelet that the medics know to look for.

It doesn't matter much anyway. A DNR will almost never be honored if the patient has made a suicide attempt. To execute a legal DNR, one must be legally competent. A suicidal person is not legally competent.

A DNR order has to be signed by either your GP or psychiatrist in order to be taken seriously. And yes I agree that if you're brought in to A&E as a potential fatality, they will try to resuscitate you before they will bother to read your notes.

Yeah I think it only works if you get like in a coma or cant make decisions for yourself I mean I could be wrong my insurance just sent me one in the mail and im thinking of getting one just in case, but I might get a lawyer to make the decision definitely not my family because they will keep me alive...i was wondering this question too but what if you had a big piece of paper on your chest that says "i have an dnr" wouldnt that work in emergency situations too or no?

In Ireland and I think the UK a DNR is only valid in hospital setting.

Why is it hard to get a dnr if you are young, if you get in a bad accident, why do you not automatically have the right to choose what you wish to happen to your body? It's not just about health ailments at later age that can damage your body. It's sick to not let someone choose bc you find what they want done with their body to be "unethical". My body my choice right. No. Oh ok.

But what if you made the dont order before your mental illness… does your current issue override that? Wtf

DNR orders are not valid in trauma and suicidal situations.
