What would you all say is the best treatment for depression? Therapy or medication and if so name them and state why. What do you think causes depression is it all trauma or is it a chemical imbalance too?

This is probably the wrong forum to get a helpful answer. You better ask this question in a health forum.

I never experienced something like depression, but a good friend of me, he committed suicide. I would say it is primarily a chemical imbalance and the best treatment is therapy and medication.

I can't tell you because I didn't get help when my depression was mild/moderate. All I can tell you is that if your depression is progressive (like mine) and reaches a certain point, it will become like alzheimers. That's what I feel like, I have been reduced to that extent. I would kill to have regular depression, I lived the best time of my life while I had regular depression.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I know it's hard. Can you explain what's the difference of regular depression to progressive depression?

The best treatment for depression is medication and psicoterapy. They complement each other.

The causes of depression can be varied. I think it could even be both examples you gave at the same time. Unfortunately for me it's in the genetics. My mother has chronic depression and has had it all her life. I get depressed from time to time.

When mine was regular I lost interest in stuff, things felt meaningless. I lost interest in video games, it felt like a chore. But I was still free to do what I wanted to do, essentially. And I did. I got re-educated, I worked in my dream job for 2 years. I spent a lot of time biking, and watching TV shows. When depression reaches a certain point, it becomes impossible to do things. When the feel-good chemicals in your brain shuts down to that extent, it feels like you're in a permanent heroin withdrawal. You can't even watch a movie anymore. I'm reduced to laying in bed and doing nothing, or being here (which requires a lot from me because it feels horrible), and I can't even lay still in bed. I can't think of many fates worse than this, because this isn't even a terminal illness. I could live to an old age with this, for all I know.

Oh now I understand. Yes, a few months ago I was in the same situation. I spent 2 months in bed everyday, without getting up. What helped me was the medication. Have you tried taking or do you take medication?

Yes, I'm on a lot of antipsychotics (supposed to have some effect against depression) and have tried antidepressants. They don't do anything for me personally. My brain and body is shutting down, I've lost all my strength. Something is terribly wrong with me and it's getting worse. I will go the same day i recieve my SN.

I'm sorry that you're suffering. Maybe your depression is resistant to medication. It's awful when that happen.

Yes, my body is resistant to a lot of things, unfortunately. Caffeine has no effect on me, I removed my nasal polyps and they grew back, I did ETC treatment for psychosis in the hospital; no effect. I doubt the anti-psychosis meds have any effect at all.
