  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

For as long as I have been self harming I've usually done it with whatever was available. Usually this included scissors and pretty dull knives that could barely cut. Couple of days ago I broke open one of my shaving razors open and got three small razor blades out of it. Usually my cuts were only surface level and looked like cat scratches, but these razor blades cut super easily and go pretty deep without much effort. Before I started cutting with these new razors I could see how getting deep enough could be an issue and why it would be seen as unreliable. But now that I have them I'm still wondering if cutting a vein is as difficult as some suggest on this site. I truly do not have any method and don't plan on ctbing soon but I do want to have a method.

I'm sorry you cut yourself ... last summer I cut my arms several times with a very sharp scissor but I couldn't cut my veins very deep ... too painful and every time I cried so much that I had my vision always blurred and therefore I have not cut myself anymore, but to hurt myself I usually throw things in my head until I no longer understand anything ... or hit hard with punches my head and my cheast.
I'm sorry that life and suffering led you to this decision ... :( I hope you will find a way to get better, or you will find a less painful method.

I have always opened up shavers to retrieve the blades.

It's probably the most accessible way.

However, my preferred method of self harm (as well as trying to CTB) is overdosing. Thus, when I cut I go in deep, in order to sever a vein. I don't get any kind of release from cutting myself. My scars are evidence of that: You can see that I meant business.

I just came out of a regular hospital and am now once again on a psych ward, under section 2 of the MHA. Whilst in hospital I had a Stanley blade concealed, which fell out of my bum cheeks a couple of times. I reluctantly gave it over, after being asked numerous times by the hospital psych liaison team. They said they were really worried about me (which never phased me at all) but then they said they have to consider all of the other patients in the hospital. It was that comment that cut deep (no pun intended) so I just handed it over.

I have to say, though, that I felt completely vulnerable, the moment I handed it over.

I would discourage you from this method for several reasons:
First, it is unreliable. Doing both is difficult.
Second, if you survive- the damage can be unimaginable. Do you have two working hands and arms currently? Great. If you make an error or survive, you might not. I have permanent damage in one arm and hand that I will never recover from. I permanently severed a muscle that controls the simple motion you use to grip and swing a hammer. Every year, despite physica therapy, using the hand and arm becomes more difficult. Dealing with life without full arm and hand functionality is distressing- and I was LUCKY because some people lose all motion.
Third, it's extremely distressing and painful to experience the blood loss. Even worse if someone finds you or witnesses you.
Fourth, this is a sure fire way to stigmatize yourself or get yourself locked in a ward should you fail. Unless you're a very smooth talker post-attempt, you could end up in the laugh box for an indeterminate period which might cause financial issues for you.
All in all, it's unlikely to be foolproof and it will cause you so many more problems than you already have. Cutting my wrist made things in my life so much harder for me.
I'm a cutter myself and I understand how you feel. I hope you are able to find a way to push through life and recover. But if you aren't and you want a method, I really urge you to look at a different one. There are so many that are much more peaceful or successful.
