I do not think that death is something to be feared, we will all die eventually no matter what happens, and when we die, we will cease to exist. There will be no more pain, no more suffering. The thought of eternal nothingness actually brings me a lot of comfort, life is what I fear instead.

Roughly how old are you?
I ask cause one of my older brothers passed away when he was in his early 20s. He had fallen on hard times and was living with our Mom. He unexpectedly died in his sleep, and our Mom found him. She was devastated for months. I think I know how you feel regarding how she's going to react at the loss of her child.

If this helps at all, try to think of it like this - you knew nothing of the billions of years before you were shot headlong into the light for the first time. Think hard on that and really try and imagine it, then remember it's to that state of nothingness, of non-experience and unknowing that you'll return. How peaceful right? You've been there before, we've all been there before.
It's hard, I know, because life and the ability to experience is all we've ever known. You'll be okay, though, I promise mate. Death isn't the opposite of life, it's part of it. And, for what it's worth, I'm with you in heart and mind, if not in person. Take comfort if possible in that.

There is nothing to fear, you will not be aware of that 'nothing'. I see it as a liberation. Even though things are going well in my life, I want to leave. My best wishes for you trip, I will also leave with that method

Perhaps it might be easier to think like this. Death doesn't exist. "Nothing" doesn't exist, because "nothing" cannot be known - you will no longer be there when "nothing" comes. Everything that exists has to do only with our life. As long as you're there, there is everything, including what you imagine as nothing. But it is impossible to face the real "nothing". Hope I've formulated the idea clearly

I think we know death. We all experience it. It happens therefore it must exist. It's the absence of life, is it not? I wouldn't call death "nothing". It seems like something to me. I think the idea that "Everything that exists has to do only with our life" is a bit short sighted. When we're gone life goes on and stuff still exists. The information that was about us still exists. I cannot presume to say nothing does not exist. I'm really not sure that there can be something without nothing.

It's ok. Don't worry few people on this forum think that there is eternal nothingness, but that is not based on any spiritual position or facts it's just a feeling they have probably influenced by a bad life more than anything.
Nobody knows what happens when you die that's the truth, you can't overthink 'the worse possible outcome' as there is every chance an obscure religion like paganism could be just as valid or reincarnation . Nobody knows. What I am confident of though personally in my thoughts is that leaving will be better than being here for sure.
