Honestly, I'm not sure the world is any worse than it's ever been. There are many more people in the world than there were, say, 50, or even 100, years ago. It only stands to reason that "crime", or terrible things in the world, would increase proportionally, as population increases. Couple that with 24/7 news and the shit-ass media going above and beyond to report on murders, rapes, and any other terrible thing they can find going on in the world, and it can seem that things are worse than ever. Sure, some new heinous "phenomena" are new, like school shootings and such, but back in the 1800's, I'm sure many more people per capita were being murdered because everyone carried a gun and shot anyone who even looked at them wrongly. Actually, I think it's been studied (by those who study such things) and it's been found that we are living in one of the safest times ever on this planet. Everyone is being inundated on a daily basis by terrible things on TV, in newspapers, online. It's literally shoved down our throats every day.
