Conversion therapy and suicide

So, Canada has completely banned conversion therapy, the widely discredited pseudoscientific practice aimed at changing a person's sexual orientation or gender identity. I know that many SS members have experienced or are still experiencing homophobia & transphobia. Has anyone been forced to undergo this type of "therapy"? It still hasn't been banned for minors in many supposedly civilized countries & US states. Btw, LGBTQ+ youth are almost three times as likely to commit (not attempt) suicide as their heterosexual peers.

I think therapy should focus on society accepting all sexuality and identity and this would start with parenting.

Why on earth would we subject the individual to therapeutic remedies, just to satisfy the ignorance of the majority!?.

Part of the problem is gay kids find it difficult to love themselves, because of conditioning. Wherein stems problems with suicide, etc. Call it oversimplifying the problem but kids need to find themselves. Unfortunately, some parents shouldn't have been parents who cant even resolve their own fukced up sexuality let alone their kids.

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but this 'conversion' is a fundamentalist Christian thing. The same people who locked up Galileo for reporting that the sun is the centre of the solar system.

I'm a lesbian and I dont personally know anyone who went through it. But in my country there's a lot of right wing politicians who claimed to be cured from homosexuality and that they managed to become heterosexual via religion (so basically conversion therapy). It probably happens way more often than we think and it makes me even more suicidal to even think about this

I was really surprised when I learned that there are actually gay people who support conversion therapy (CT) (prominent example: Milo Yiannpoulos). I think banning it is extreme, but forcing it should certainly be banned imo. Because there are gay supporters of it, then there must be some gay people who really don't want to be gay. I have no idea how effective CT is at changing orientation (I would guess hilariously ineffective).

I went to a government-run mental health clinic in town a few years ago. The intake sheet had a space for pronouns/gender identity and I wrote down that I'm non-binary.

The shrink that saw me completely ignored my PTSD concerns and all he talked about was putting me into conversion therapy. He said I was delusional--as in literally out of touch with reality--for saying I was non-binary.

I filed a complaint about that. Was told he no longer worked there, so I went back a year later. But he still worked there.

How can parents force their children to undergo therapy, and before they are even adults?

Because it's still not illegal to do so in many countries & US states... There are Christian lunatics out there who force their 10-year-old boys who haven't even experienced sexual attraction to anyone yet to repent for being gay just because they're very shy or bad at sports.
