Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

Considering in a last ditch effort for a life, going AWOL from society and living the hermit lifestyle. Anyone else tried it? Living it? Planning it?

I hope I don't come across too pushy, I only mean to encourage. Feel free to DM with questions (although I'm by no means an expert, just a sometime human) or updates - or update here if you wish to share - even if simply to tell me to fuck off
Haha no I'm sorry I was in a god awful mood earlier and just left a short reply. I do appreciate you sharing what you know and I will be looking into the idea :)
I'd like this thread to become a soundboard for how to live more off-grid and independently, especially in places like the UK where it's rather hard to achieve for those of us who struggle to fit in with mainstream society which is really quite oppressive here alongside current market forces.
I'm hopefully coming into money soon and will invest in property which will create a sizable monthly income for myself if I can see myself through the next year. Then I'll maybe be able to save up and invest in going off grid one day or getting a houseboat or something. Not sure what I'll do but one day I'm be out of this I'm stuck in here. I'll have to leave one day anyway eventually, neighbours don't like me.
Give Alaska a try. Not sure how visas work for non-US but had a lot of friends get a work visa and find a seasonal job (coolworks.com is a good place to start, places are probably hiring now still) to have a place to stay until you have a little saved up and know the area better. And very cheap, remote places to stay.
One of the last places i know that people will genuinely help you if you need it without asking any questions. All you have to do is take the step to do it, which is probably an easier step than ctb.
I'm not doing well out of this society I currently wallow around in. I'm a mostly bedroom bound autist who most of my family hates and the neighbours and local kids laugh at. It's a passion of having my self-esteem eviscerated every day. There's too many people about. I need somewhere quieter and less mental to be quite honest.
I know that attuning to a new life as a hermit, possibly somewhere in the sticks will be a huge shock to my system and I have been a rather idle, coddle baby for much of my 20s. Regardless I cannot stay like that if I want to survive and not be a despised manchild and sleazy loser. That's a waste of time. Either I off myself or I go somewhere else where the rules of life are different and I can live a life more like that natural to healthy human beings. I'd be willing to acquire survival and crafting skills if that's what it takes and want advice from folks here who know a little about making this plan possible.
I'm miserable enough here to try and take a huge risk at whatever crazy schemes people have come up with for a quiet life away from most other humans. Maybe not entirely out on the frontier just yet though? Things like internet or delivery services want to be attainable. I'm currently living in the UK for point of reference so assume a temperate European environment for my possible new hovel.
I'm curious if you've tried and how you're faring now?
I've lived in a car for several years in the US and tend to prefer remote areas with no people. I don't know about the UK, but the struggle here is difficulty accessing spots without people. There are vast expanses of wilderness, but I'm unable to trek super far on foot; and maintaining supplies can be a challenge in remote areas, even with a car. In locations without people they boot you after two weeks; there are rangers who patrol because most the wilderness is federally owned. I have found however that rangers will sometimes ignore my presence if they drive up and find me picking up litter or contributing in some other way. In a couple of spots I've been able to stay for about a month because of that exception.
A couple of great solutions if you have money and/or a reasonably able body:
-Getting a van or trailer that is self-contained and staying a a longterm campground. The ones near me are under $200 for about 6 months if your vehicle has its own water tanks and bathroom. There are neighbors, but it's easy to keep to yourself.
-Take a prolonged backpacking or train trip. I've known people who have traveled all over by foot and/or train for mega-cheap, spent months or even years living that way.
