In the German language there is a discussion whether to call someone who has ctb self-murderer. There is a difference between self-murder (Selbstmord) and suicide (Suizid). With the term self-murder(er) you imply that someone has murdered oneself. The term murder has a negative connotation. To murder someone is often used when someone has vile intentions whereas a suicide can have good reasons or might be just an act of desperation.
I never use the the term self-murder(er). I prefer killing onneself (Selbsttötung) and suicide. Due to that fact they have less negative connotation.
I am not sure whether this discussion is helpful. It might reduce the stigmatization and might let people think about the fact that suicide is not an evil act.
On the other hand this might be just an academic language game which won't change anything.
Not sure about it. What do you think?
