Hi! I think I'm going for CO2, but I can't find the proper amounts for the method from the following thread.

Thread 'Near Success! Cheap, Fast. (Baking Soda + Citric Acid)'
https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/near-success-cheap-fast-baking-soda-citric-acid.186524/

  1. Mix baking soda and citric acid in the ziplock bag.
  2. Leave the bag mostly closed, with a small opening.
  3. Pour water in and quickly close the bag.
  4. Wait for the bag to expand.
  5. Put the ziplock bag in the trash bag with the zip side facing up.
  6. Sit down and put the bag over your head so that it hangs down, with the ziplock below your face.
  7. Use the rubber band to secure the trash bag around your neck.
  8. Open the ziplock.

how much baking soda and citric acid would I need? I'm probably going to use a 50-litre trash bag.

That sounds terrible. It's never mentioned as a good method anywhere, but CO (carbon monoxide) often is. I think if you just want self-harm your body then such experiments with baking soda and citric acid are a way to do so

As far as I know, the reaction goes according to the equation below (if you use citric acid monohydrate, which should be easier to find than anhydrous citric acid)

3 NaHCO₃ + H₃C₆H₅O₇ * H₂O → Na₃C₆H₅O₇ + 4 H₂O + 3 CO₂

So, 3 mol of NaHCO₃ + 1 mol of H₃C₆H₅O₇ * H₂O produce 1 mol of Na₃C₆H₅O₇ + 4 mol of H₂O + 3 mol of CO₂ in a complete reaction.

NaHCO₃ (baking soda): 3 mol * 84 g/mol = 252 g
H₃C₆H₅O₇ * H₂O (citric acid monohydrate): 1 mol * 210 g/mol = 210 g
CO₂ (carbon dioxide): 3 mol * 22.4 to 24 L/mol (0 to 20 °C, 1 atm) = 67.2 to 72 L

In real circumstances, the yield will be less than 100% (from theoretical) and some part of CO₂ will remain dissolved in water, so the quantities mentioned above could be good for producing 50 L of CO₂ (any excess can be released into the ambient atmosphere).

I tried this a couple of times from impulse, at the time I didn't know the measurements, and just used whatever I had at home. I used a ratio of 1:1.2, I can't recall the exact amount I used, I think 50 grams of citric acid to 60 grams of baking soda, and then I doubled it the next time.

The measurements @Intoxicated did seem more reasonable.

Just a fair warning this method did some damage. If your attempt doesn't go as planned at the very least just be carful with over exertion for a while.

120 g of baking soda + 100 g of citric acid should suffice for filling some 25 L bag, and I don't think you'd need more. 28 - 34% CO₂ should be enough for achieving calmness after about 20 breaths if the other 66 - 72% in the mixture is oxygen:

Subjects generally exhibited one of three breathing patterns:
  1. Deep and desperately rapid breathing starting by the second breath, and lasting into the tens. Somewhere before breath 20 the urgency tapers off and the subject settles into deep, rhythmic breaths.
  2. Deep, rapid breathing with a gagging pause, as if to swallow, every 3 or 4 breaths into the 20s.
  3. Calm, deep, slow breathing, through the 20s. One subject displayed this pattern during each session; another adopted it after his second session, and reported that it required quite a bit of will power.
More about carbogen:

When diluting CO₂ with air instead of oxygen, the onset of narcosis should appear somewhat faster.

Breathing ≥72% CO₂ mixed with air would likely cause LOC in 15 - 30 seconds, because such a mixture works as chemical asphyxiant and simple asphyxiant (reducing the concentration of O₂ to 6% or below) at the same time.

I am also considering this method . What damage did you experience ? Could you please let me know ?
i tested it once. i simply inhaled just a bit CO2 from plastic bottle without using plastic bag or anything . It was very sharp to inhale CO2
