If you or somebody you know was raised catholic, then you have probably heard that suicide is a "sin," and anybody who commits suicide will spend all of eternity in unbearable pain and suffering.
Has this detered anybody from attempting to kill themselves?
I think that a loving God ( if there is one) would not punish a person for ending their life because they were in pain and suffering with more pain and suffering.
I also hate this ideology, because my father commited suicide and I can't bare the thought of him burning in hell.

I've tried to end myself like 5 times, none of those times I've felt any pain/desperation/regret. Of course you're free to believe in whatever your heart tells you to.
But I think religion is for us what Santa Claus is for the kids.

Yeah the only reason difference is that when children grow up they learn Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy isn´t real

The only reason people believe in religion is because they have been indoctrinated since they were born to believe in it and if you think about it religion is a mental illness; if a person talks to someone who isn´t there he is a schizoprenic if you claim to speak/pray to god then you are just religious.

That's exactly how I think. The ones who cause other people's pain should be the ones to go to hell, not their victims.

The only thing I feel or think in regards to hell or any kind of potential afterlife, is a residual paranoia as the result of childhood indoctrination, but no real faith that the concept is anything more than the most extreme version of a mythological boogeyman to scare kids (and, eventually, psychological kids buried deep within adults) into the ideal conditioned behavior of the tribe.

Religious tribe, societal tribe, whatever tribe - it's all just tribalism, evolved from the human survival instinct.

I can't say I know what comes after fading to black, and it's paranoia-inducing a bit, but I mostly just think that the chances are high there's absolutely nothing for ME, as I am in my human meat-consciousness, after death.

Catholicism has perhaps always been as much, if not more, about social control than the Bible.

The Bible doesn't say people who suicide will go to hell.

Mary wasn't a deity, nor named as an intercessor.

There were no saints, the church names them.

Confession and penance via a human intercessor? Church.

The sales of indulges so one can bypass hell? Sold by the church.

Last rites to ensure getting into heaven? Church.

And all of these beliefs started centuries ago when the overwhelmingly vast majority of Catholics couldn't read, and relied on priests to tell them what the Bible said and what to believe and what to do. Bibles were also the property of the church for the most part as they were hand-copied, so people didn't have access. The church doesn't give the Bible (or even God, really) the ultimate authority, it gives it to the pope, who was/is supposed to be the mouthpiece of God. That sounds a lot like how many religious cults operate, and cults exist to control and use members, not genuinely support them. Dead members aren't of much use unless they're scapegoats for something, far better to keep them alive with tales of hell if they dare to escape the abuses and atrocities of life.

BTW, a lot of Protestant dogma was retained by the various sects after breaking off from Catholicism.

Not all Christians feel that way. Catholics, Right-wing Protestants, etc. The other ones will view it as harmful to those living and clearly view anyone who wants to CTB as sick, but not necessarily going to hell. Of course, the more conservative ones will say the other churches aren't really Christian.

I believe in god, I also believe in hell. I deserve to suffer for all of eternity for being the kind of worthless pos I turned out to be.

I do believe that suicides in some cases is not a real choice by a person, but forced upon them by their circumstances, so I often don't see it as being a sin.

During the translation of the Bible to English they translated Sheol and Gehenna into hell. Neither of which are the burning hell the Christians believe in. That place is along with the Bible is a work of fiction taken seriously. It was a good tool to enslave people in the early days.

Suicide being a sin only came up when the numbers spiked and the church earnings dropped. The real sin was robbing the church of your hard earned money. That's where that lie came from. The church was and is the biggest con ever.

There's supposedly an idea that was supported in early Christianity (also Judaism or at least sects of it do not have a Hell like Catholics/Protestants and such do) that's similar to the law of attraction. Heaven/Hell aren't geographic states but states of being. The 'fire' is alchemical. The 'hell' burns itself out eventually.

It's a bit more comforting than the modern/medieval understanding of Hell.

I highly recommend the documentary "hell bound" it explores the origin of eternal damnation and how it doesn't make sense even from a Christian frame work.

If god exists, he abandoned us or never gave a fuck about us. Or, he is a psychotic monster that looks at us suffering by his fault and do nothing to change that. I don't believe in God, but if he exist, I won't obey his dumb rules, and I reject his false love.
Lucky for me, I do not just "don't believe" but I know for a fact that god is just a myth. As you said, something like god wouldn't allow you to go in heaven and expect you to enjoy it if a loved one is being tortured in hell forever. Or he is a fucking sadistic bitch.

Don't worry about god more than about the monster under your bed when you were 6. You don't need legends and myths to be a nice people and make good things around you, you just need a brain and empathy.

Christianity & Catholicism are bullshit lies. People cannot even have free will because being in control of fate is an impossibility if you understand physics and how the brain functions.

Furthermore as a decent human being, I had my life destroyed because of having parents that were grossly religious with forcing the illogical belief upon me and with the area I lived being greatly conservative. How did that destroy my life you may ask? Well imagine being transgender and having puberty destroy all possibility of having a decent life. Hell there are trans kids that grew up selling themselves in big cities for sex that have better life because they're not disfigured by puberty cause of religious idiots making it impossible. These religious nonsensical people made it such a hell on earth that the right thing to do would be to strangle god if there was one.

That's from the book of Leviticus (old testament) which also allows slavery and instructions on when you can sell your daughter. If you're a Christian, go with Christ's teachings (new testament) and the 10 commandments.
