Help Chat bubble permanently there, even though I'm in no rooms

Is this normal? I seem to recall years ago, it would only ever light up if I had new 1-1 messages, or If I was actually in a room:



What the hell is that "12" for? My private message only shows 1, and there are more than 12 people in the group chats; there are surely more than 12 new messages since I poked my head in weeks ago.
Seems like a weird bug rendering users unable to easily see if they have any chat messages to actually tend to.

Yes, I'm also not in any rooms but that bubble is permanently there and it's showing 12 for me as well right now.

@R. A. @bankai The chat bubble icon is always there. The number is not about messages. When you haven't joined a room the number is usually the highest number of visitors in any room. When you have only joined another room than the one with the highest number of visitors and stay in this room with the chat page open, then it will show the number of visitors of the room you joined.

yeah, I got annoyed by this too, when I exited the 2 "main" rooms in order to try and see pm's via the chat better~ altho, it didn't end up working (as already described here) unfortunately~ :( I wonder if someone's made a suggestion about this already~

yes but only for reactions and the 1st message within the chat~ If someone sends you a message, and you never check the chat for "Private Conversations", then you'll never know about it~ :(

You can hide the button by this instruction if it distracts you

You can remove the chat badge using the browser extension uBlock Origin. Once installed, navigate to My Filters in the extension settings and add these two lines:
sanctioned-suicide.net##a:remove-class(/badgeContainer|badgeContainer--highlighted/)
sanctioned-suicide.net##span.badge.badge--highlighted.badge--active
Alternatively, if you want to remove the chat button entirely then add the following lines:
sanctioned-suicide.net##.p-navgroup-link.p-navgroup-link--chat.badgeContainer.badgeContainer--highlighted

I use Brave's built-in adBlock feature to remove the chat button in its entirety—most ad blocker extensions can do the same job. The advantage of the Brave browser is that you can synchronize the adBlock settings across all your devices. But if you want to keep the chat button but without the highlighted badge, uBlock Origin is the only choice.

It's highly annoying not to get notification when someone further responds in a chat.

I remembered - I think: back in the day, you could either "be in" your private 1-1 chat lobby, or the shared room lobby - and the bubble would correspond to that. So, I'd only be seeing this eternal 12 (still 12 now lol) if I clicked the public lobby and didn't switch before going to another part of the site. And the reverse was true...but now, for whatever reason you're permanently stuck in the group chats lobby.
Insight, mods, admin? Anyone?
