So do I need any more gadgetry to pull it off?
I don´t understand what you mean by more gadgetry. Everything you need is in the book and guide. BBQ, coal, barbecue coal lighter, sealing material and maybe a CO meter.

It´s ok. I´m allways willing to help. But sometimes it´s frustrating to always write the same thing, especially when the infos are written in the guides and books.

But I just see there is an error in my post dated May 27th. 5.49 pm. The minimum quantity of coal is not 350 g per qm of room air, it´s 135 g.

As allready explained in the guides, you have to seal the exit room from inside perfectly. When we talk about a room in a house, you would use a high quality(!!!) parcel tape or insulating tape to seal all openings, such as holes, cracks, keyholes....etc.. Don´t forget the air conditioning and ventilations.
So is the reason why this method doesn't work and leaves peoppe damaged is because they forget to seal up vents?
Holes etc, zips in tents.

Whoops I didn't mean that this method doesn't work i just meant that sometimes people don't get it right.

Well, yes. The room need to be air sealed. Sometimes there are gaps in hidden spaces which people don't realise!
Plenty other possible reasons; the charcoal need to have been smoked or burnt through first and charcoals are white/grey before brining it into the room. You don't want smoke in the room.
You will need enough charcoal to fill the space with CO.
Do not use supermarket trays. Get your own charcoal, fire starter and a bucket.

If all done correctly, it should work.

Can I ask why you can't use supermarket trays?
