Unless if the bag was big enough to not really be classified as a bag, your head would be touching the scolding charcoal. Yes it would kill you, but it would be a death far more painful than suffocation.

What kind of bag? I can't think of any kind of bag that wouldn't start on fire, or melt, from the hot charcoals, whether the bag was made of paper, plastic, or fabric. A small metal container that you could stick your head into would be much better. Or, just use a tent.
