this is a chapter from my novel about bipolar 2
the book is written in arabic. i translated this part myself. im trying to translate the rest but its hard to keep the same soul in english. something always gets lost
so here is the chapter
the main character is on stage getting an award. he feels good like he finally did something right. but then he sees a shadow in the audience clapping for him slow and strange. not like the others
later he goes home opens an old drawer and finds a paper he wrote years ago. on it "things i will do"
dreams he had during a manic episode. he forgot about them until that night
then he sees a new line at the bottom. different handwriting. smaller. more quiet.
"do you remember me"
the bear wrote it. the bear is the illness
the bear was asking him if he still remembers it. and the bear was still clapping. not with the crowd. instead of the crowd. from the shadows where it had always been watching
that was the first time the bear clapped for him
the novel is called the bear inside me
this chapter alone wont make full sense without the rest but i wanted to share a piece of it anyway
if anyone here writes or translates i would appreciate advice on how to keep the soul of the text when switching languages
