Personally, I dislike Merz for his economical policies. He is neoliberal. But on foreign policy I like his Performance a lot thus far.
There were many aspects why Merz had a good meeting with Trump. They could gossip about Angela Merkel. Merz is an antagonist to her. I think Merz took Trump serious, treated him with respect and buttered Trump up e.g. thankfulness for the US role in the World wars/Nordstream 2. I also think the German Government made a lot of concessions for example by spending more on military.
And Trump in exchanged ignored questions of the press Corps concerning free speech in Germany. Trump complimented Merz' English. I think indeed his English is better than the one of Merkel or Scholz.
All in all I think Germany can be glad that there was not a dispute or anything. What is your impression of Merz? I changed quickly to a US Stream the German translators were a disaster in German streams.
