  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

I think there are many official suicides and official non-suicides that are questioned.

Has Epstein really killed himself? Did Kurt Cobain Do it?

I read people on here who claimed the death of Lil Peep might have been a suicide. Personally, I doubt this theory.

Is it too morbid to have such discussions?

The wikipedia list of people who commited suicide has a whole section for possible or disputed suicides.
I used to lurk a lot in there reading each and yeah there are some that are a bit 🤨
It definetly can be morbid curiosity, or a way to cope with your own feelings and desire to die by reading how others did it, or might have. I don't think that's new or too unhealthy if it gets you by or eases you even if just a bit. All that's welcomed.

I also think it's ok to have those dicussions and question these cases.
Except, !!!, in my opinion, in some cases in which it draws away from better and more fruitful discussions about mental illness or suicide itself. When it instead romanticizes it, or makes it just a mystery : O
Cos then it stops being a real thing, it inches towards fiction, and our brains love that, and the person and its real strugles fade behind a plot and narrative.
Like the Kurt Cobain one. I don't like that one. The guy was suffering a lot and killed himself. Instead of having positive discussions about mental illness, drug abuse, the weight of fame and the complexity of it all, some people decide to shove all that aside and make it a thriller mystery conspiracy shit and incorporate some misoginy in mix and accusations for good measure. His wife did it, why? cos women be crazy. That one tends to be specially shitty cos it not only distracts the conversation from the important side of it, but turns it towards hate or nastier discussions. And it's not the only one that does that sort of thing. These tend to fall under conspiracy territory and a lot of negative consequences come out of there.

Still I think it's a case by case basis tho. It's ok to talk about these things and to talk about serial killers and whatnot.
It'd be cool if we could do that And find some time to talk about the actual real and important issues to that come with em.

In a way its funny cos discussing whether these people actually killed themselves or not is sometimes less taboo than actual suicidality discussions. It's ok if we talk about if Epstein knew how to tie a knot at the dinner table, but don't bring up you wanting to die sometimes to us or things will get weird and awkward and maybe baad.

So we humans are morbid fucks that can't talk our dark feelings out but love stories and thriller. k that's my rant.

Vincent van Gogh... (may have been manslaughter.)

I think lots of people wonder about suspicious deaths. The police obviously have to. Maybe it is disrespectful to talk about it but then, I think you can respect or disapprove of someone but still wonder how they died.

I also think context is important. Obviously, we'd avoid gossiping about them with a loved one of theirs. As public figures especially though, it's bound to cause speculation.
