My main method so far was to use the car's exhaust gases for carbon monoxide intoxication, but I saw in some publications that this method can be ineffective and that it might only work with older cars (probably those that use a carburetor). I would like to clarify whether this method is really viable or not, as it would be extremely frustrating to spend hours waiting for death without anything happening.

I would not even try it with older cars. There is a better option:

The best method with a car is to attach a rope to your neck and then to an object outside the car. Push down hard on the accelerator and you'll decapitate yourself. This should be done off-road for obvious reasons. This is a genuine method that's been used by dozens of people (rare, but real).
