  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

This is about the most pro-choice you can get within the accepted range of discourse without being fired and branded a "death cult" supporter. A little cringy at times with all that beating around the bush, but very impressive article.

It's called "Being suicidal doesn't mean you're mentally ill" and it made me happy reading it:

https://slate.com/technology/2019/02/mental-illness-suicide-rational-thought-getting-help.html
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the read. It's good to see that someone is being open in discussing the fact that people's lives may just be so miserable that the logical thing to do is die. It's never a good thing for society to bear down this path and it must be solved, but conflating it to mental illnesses exclusively might limit what we consider as solutions IMO.

yes, pretty good article. There was another one a while back in Slate as well ( or was it Vice ? ) on the same subject, that even mentionned this forum, and was also trying to be fair and balanced. But these are pretty rare. Like @xaea13 said, there is an consensual omerta that keeps journalists from being totally honest about this subject without risking being fired. Sometimes you have to read between the lines.

Contrast this with that horrible article in NY Times, that was mentionned here a while back, written by a sadistic power tripping journalist.

Thank you for sharing. I wish that there were more articles like this. In a world like this wanting suicide can be perfectly rational, in my case it is the only thing that makes sense for me. I have came to the conclusion that my life is not worth living and it does not mean that I am mentally ill at all.

Actually, this is something I was super ignorant on. Being on SS for a second time and seeing the new members, I've realized not everyone on here struggles with a psychiatric disorder.

Some people just don't want to be alive for a bunch of different reasons; from physical disabilities to just not liking life. There definitely needs to be more articles talking about this.
