I would do some reseacrh, it might work and it might not. It would be very unreliable to try to hit the bbrainstem, which is only 1/2" wide, and if you miss it the bullet can go out the neck and not cause any real damage- sometimes people are released the same day from the hospital for this. If you shoot from the side or in the mouth yo have to cause a lot of damage to both hemispheres for it to work, with a hollow point bullet it would help. An 80% chan ce of working is a good guess, which is the average for this method, but not 100%. bYOu can searc h in the internet by studies for gunshot suicide attempts and verify this infoirmation generally, that there are some cases where this doesn't work.

@radicalfreedom, I'm sorry that things have come to this for you. I bought a gun recently for the same reason, but have not tried to ctb with it as yet. I'm not sure I could tell you why . . . I just haven't.

Not really. If you aim it right you will die but there is a small chance you can fail as pistol ammunition, like 9mm, isnt as 'explosive'/'big' as large caliber ammunition used by rifles like 5.56, 7.62, 20ga, 30-08, etc. Hollow-point should be used to put a bigger hole. You can aim right behind your ear, look at photos of where the brain stem is located, the image I showed here is where one should aim if you put a gun in your mouth

i think it's high enough, but man, pistols really are a gamble, any way to buy a shotgun instead ? as people said, 12/20 gauge is one hell of a kicker.

I think people are confused about the success rates and accessibility of other methods.

Remember, ancectdotal evidence is bad evidence. The fact that you can find a bunch of gun suicide survivors doesn't prove anything. The only interesting question is 'what percentage of people survive.' For that, you have to look at academic research, not randos on youtube.

Every single study of suicide has demonstrated that firearms are the most lethal method. Lethality ranges from 80-90+%.

Case fatality for hanging is 70% or so, much much l.ower. Case fatality for everything else is FAR lower.

In the United States, where I live, it is much easier to acquire a firearm than the ingredients for SN poisoning, or phenobarbital. I can go to a gun store and have a firearm in hands in 10 days. By contrast SN is inconsistently available at all for non industrial clients, and the high power anti-emetics needed for the method are strictly regulated, prescription only meds. I have tried for months to get the prescribed with no luck. As for Phenobarbital, there is a *single* known source, who currently has severe supply issues.

95% likely to work, maybe 98%, but not 100% most likely- people survive gunshots wounds from every angle, I gave up on this method because I did a lotg of research in medical journals and no matter the angle some people survive. Of course with that caliber and hollow pooint it helps a lot. The brain stem is so small that you cannot be sure of hitting it, the main way this would work is by causing severe damage to both hemispheres.

Right, but people sometimes survive *all* methods. A lot of people survive suspension hanging with brain damage, and the vast majority of people survive self-poisoning, often with serious systemic effects. And any survival would end my ability to make future attempts, as I would almost certainly be institutionalized.

I would suggest going to youtibe and watching some videos of people who have survived gun suicide attempts- just search by "gun suicide attempt survivor". Many have their faces severly damaged and have years with many surgeries. It has maybe an 80% chance of working, but if you are in the 20% it is terrible. Sn and full suspension and some other methods have about the same reliability without the severe damage, in most cases, that results from a failed gun suicide attempt.

Are you aware of what happens to people who fail full suspension hanging? In many cases they end up with severe brain damage.

If you can't point to any source for SN that ships the real substance, in conjunction with a reliable means of getting appropriate anti-emetics, I am open to it, but I have been working on that for three months with no result. Every SN vendor I found that would ship to private individuals shipped low purity or fake SN, and no doctor would prescribe dopamine blocker anti-emetics no matter what symptoms I made up.

Look up 'hanging suicide attempt survivor' or 'poisoning suicide attempt survivor.' All methods have a risk of failure and horrifying results if you fail. The only real exception to that rule is Nembutal, which is incredibly difficult, bordering on impossible, to obtain in the US.

It's my opinion that full suspension hanging is the most reliable method- basically 100% if you do it correctly and are not interrupted. However, finding a placce to do this where you won't be interrupted and where you can actually do full suspenion correctly is not easy, unless maybe you live ina house by yourself and have a place to do this. Plus it can be a very stressful method that takes a while. Gune are less reliable- it's easy to miss the brain stem because it's so small- otherwise both hemispheres need a lot of damage for this to work, and often this doesn't happen. Youtube has many videos from people who have survived this method.

People have done that … I'm not sure what the success rate is. I think it would be agonizing and take far longer than you would like. For a long time my plan has been a shotgun to the head … 00 buckshot in a 12 gauge gun. A knowledgeable friend of mine said that gun would really kick, which I fear could cause a catastrophic miss. (She was trying to dissuade me from suicide in general.) So 20 gauge, maybe.

Or maybe I'm just too much of a coward to try.
