My brother is 11 years old and just said that he's thought about killing himself. I was able to talk to him and he wasn't actually planning on killing himself and still thinks life is worth living. He's been feeling depressed these past couple weeks and no one besides me in my family cares. He told my dad and he just said "oh" and went back to using his phone. He doesn't want my mom to know because she's a horrible person and would only be angry at him and has been emotionally and sometimes physically abusive towards him. It's sad that he's taking the same path as I did when I was around his age. I hope he doesn't get to the point I have where he decides that his only option is suicide. I'm not sure if suicidal ideation is genetic in my family or if we're just a product of our environment. This was mostly just a rant post. Thanks for being the only place I can talk to about this.

I dislike saying this but your parents are jerks. I had "parents" who hated me and called me "the mistake" because they did not want me and it was not cool back then , in the 1950's to put a baby up for adoption. So , yep, when I read your post it was like deja vu for me. My heart broke into pieces for you and your younger brother when I read your post. Please try and stay strong and I send you lots of hugs and love to help. All the best to you two. Walter

That's such a young age to have these thoughts :(

It's definitely torturous when you're helpless and completely under your parent's control at that age. You did a great job at supporting your brother, and you should be proud of yourself for being a dependable big brother.

Just know that you're doing a better job than many siblings. Even if it seems like the obvious choice to make, a lot of older siblings wouldn't be as supportive as you were.

That sounds hard to deal with, but at least you are there for him and you understand him as you have had those thoughts yourself. It could likely be linked to the environment you have both grown up in. I wish you well.

Years ago my sister had her first mental breakdown. I was so certain she would now be as suicidal as me because I thought this is probably genetics and environment. Turned she says life is so precious she would never ctb. I was really surprised...so we are different to our family members i guess. However I know a guy who is severly suicidal and very many people in his family have ctb
