Hi, I'm interested to see if people have, or think they have BPD/EUPD. I'm sure I do but as yet I am undiagnosed.

I disagree with diagnosing PDs and the implication that there's something wrong with somebody's personality; rather it is pretty much always a trauma response. The Power Threat Meaning Framework is an alternative to psychiatric diagnoses, seeing them as harmful. It's worth a look.

Thankfully the DSM and ICD seem to at least be moving towards naming them 'personality difficulties' rather than 'personality disorders'.

I had hoped to copy and paste the diagnostic criteria here, but it doesn't seem possible! They are available at the following link : https://psychscenehub.com/psychpedi...isorder-dsm-5-and-icd-11-diagnostic-criteria/ - this includes both the DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria.

Thank you!

Undiagnosed but 99% sure I have it. I wish there was a treatment but it seems DBT and medication are sort of band-aids to limit how much you harm other people. It's sad but hopefully the treatment does help others internally too.

That Power Threat Meaning Framework looks interesting. I like the idea of abandoning the entire system of mental health diagnoses and starting over with a new system.

Agree - much less demonising to view the behaviours of 'mentally ill' people as threat responses necessary for survival!!

I sometimes consider myself to have BPD, but have not been diagnosed with BPD specifically. I do have a dissociative disorder, so my behavior can change significantly and any given behavior is limited to some parts. I have schizoid and avoidant parts too.

One of my medical records lists unspecified personality disorder and idk if the clinician who wrote that had a particular one in mind.

I thought I might be autistic for years but now BPD makes more sense-although I didn't have abusive parents or any reason to have it. I did watch my grandad die of lung cancer at age 13 but I'm not sure if that counts as childhood trauma although it really affected me.

I'm mid 30s and have never grown up and am way too oversensitive and emotional. I can see it in my brother now as well because he can't control his temper at all (luckily I don't really have that problem it's more depression and can't deal with stress) my parents were super laid back for the most part so I don't know why either of us would have BPD. I used to binge eat a lot when I was a teen (not so bad now) and I've never been able to keep money, been known to blow heaps on gambling too. Totally have no direction and never had any idea how you are supposed to navigate adulthood and choose what to do for a living. So ashamed of myself but can't seem to help it, was not supposed to turn out like this :aw:

I can relate to a lot of what you've said here.

There's overlap/comorbidity between autism and BPD too.

Your impulsive behaviours (binging, gambling) are pretty indicative of BPD. There's a term in the BPD community called 'quiet BPD' which is the presentation you described of yourself; emotions are turned inwards, so to speak, instead of lashing out at others.

As I said in the original post, I don't really agree with BPD as a diagnosis, particularly due to the stigma. But studies have shown different brain structure and functioning in those with BPD compared to healthy controls. So you're right, it's not our fault.

I was diagnosed with BPD in 2003 or so. When I inadvertently found out that I had a BPD diagnosis (I glanced at the top page of my therapist's file on me), I really identified with it. However, I believe now that not being told I had a BPD diagnosis was a breach of trust. I was a lot like @betternever2havbeen : I believe I had/have quiet BPD, although, unlike @betternever2havbeen , my parents argued a lot and my father was an alcoholic who molested me when I was 17. When I changed psychiatrists (yet again) in 2019 (I think: not too long before Covid), my psychiatrist told me she thought I no longer met the criteria for a BPD diagnosis. I put down "diagnosed but disagree with the diagnosis" in the survey, for lack of a phrase that better applies to me.

Yeh I mean I must be quiet BPD for sure if I have it, that's why I never would've thought of it before because I rarely lose it in public or anything, I'm very shy. I also spend a lot of time thinking about the past, feeling A LOT of guilt and ruminating.

Yeh the stigma is not good, it strikes fear into people doesn't it, not sure I really wanna get officially diagnosed.

I'm so sorry to hear about what you went through with your father. Yeh apparently you can improve enough not to meet the criteria anymore so you've done well-aside from the breach of trust, do you think the therapy helped?

Yes, I think therapy has helped somewhat, as well as the 450 mg Wellbutrin XL/10 mg Abilify combo I take every morning. (I haven't seen since 2004 the therapist who left her notes open so that I saw my BPD diagnosis. About six months ago, I began seeing my current therapist.) I still often feel overwhelmed and I use suicidal ideation as a defense mechanism. Also, I still suspect I will ctb eventually, but not in the next five years at least. I'm 55 now (my 56th birthday is on September 23) — as far as I can recall, by the time many people with a BPD diagnosis reach my age, they no longer meet the criteria for diagnosis. The potential trouble for people with a BPD diagnosis is getting to middle age alive and in one piece.

bpd and cptsd combines are a kind of suffering that shouldnt have to be endured by any living creature, the worst part is that bpd and dptsd was inflicted on us, its not a imbalence we ere all victims at a young age and through no fault of our own life as we know it is unbearable. my heart goes out to anyone else suffering with personality order and i hope you make it through. i have chronic pain on top of it all and im ctb this month. its so fucking sad i had so much potential but the chronic pain is the nail in the coffin ive been bedridden for years, im sobbing writing this and idk why. bpd has ran my life and im sorry to all of you and i wish you peace
