sorry all, deleted my thread before to streamline my questions more.

1. are the bitcoin atms safe to use? will they force me to hold my funds for a certain period of time? am i better off withdrawing cash to use than a bank transfer, i'm assuming?

2. once i have the bitcoin from the atm, how does that work? can I "take it home" and transfer it to an electrum wallet? once it's in that wallet can i send it directly to D or what?

3. what's the deal with watchlists in North America? I read that one person was put on a watchlist like 7 years ago after purchasing but I have no idea if he paid with crypto or what. Also, what are the chances the seller's customer list gets leaked and down the line those who purchased are confronted? I don't plan to hang around long but this possibility still makes me nervous.

I am in absolute misery, I sleep 3 hours a night if that, I have a condition that is going to kill me in the next decade anyways, I have FINALLY made some sort of peace with leaving here but the only end I can make peace one is a peaceful one. I know guides exist for this but my brain really just doesn't work anymore. I have trouble following and breaking down the information. If anyone who is knowledgable in this is open to assisting me (obviously not assisting me to ctb, just to understand bitcoin) I would be so grateful

Hi Princess, I am very sorry to hear about your condition and your struggles. I am in a similar situation so I can empathize

I used a bitcoin ATM and it ended up being very easy. I only have used it one time so I can only speak on my experience with that specific bitcoin atm, I am not sure if others are any different. The one thing about using the ATM, is that it was a 12% fee so you need to factor that before you deposit. Some I've heard are as a high as 15-20%, if this is an issue then I would use coinbase/cashapp or moneygram like TA said below.

1. I would say they are safer than others as you only have to use a phone number. After I deposited the cash I had to call the number on the receipt to get the funds released, it took an hour or two before it showed up in my wallet. They ask you a few questions, what are you using it for, do you know the person you are sending it to, etc. You should tell you need to send money to a friend, a person you know, etc.

2. When you deposit in the ATM, it will ask you to scan the QR code for your wallet. Once the funds are released it will go to the wallet you scanned, after that you can do whatever you want (send it D or send it to another wallet of yours) My atm suggested I use a specific wallet which I did, I didn't want to risk funds getting help up transferring to one of those more anonymous wallets so I just sent it from the one the funds were deposited into.

2. I am not sure what a watchlist is, at this point I don't really care if I get charged or they find me. As long as they don't find mine N which would probably be a waste of time/effort/money so I doubt they would go that far.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I would be happy to help. Hopefully D will pick up again in July, personally I am confident he will once supply is back

You really don't need bitcoin...MoneyGram payment was still being accepted in Feb as far as I know. You just have to say that's the way you can feasibly pay at this point in time. Sorry I'm no help with bitcoin.

thank you so much for this <3 I guess my best bet would be to do as you said, get the money at the stand and use the wallet they recommend, and maybe transfer it to a more private wallet after? Were they pressing with the questions, did they accept your answers at face value or require more detail, etc?

do you know if the privacy is less secure with that? How was the process for you?

The person on the phone sounded young and probably gets paid close to minimal wage so they did not press at all lol

And someone suggested Exodus wallet as an anonymous wallet, I was originally going to do that but I did test a run by buying $5 of btc on cashapp then transferring it to exodus. As soon as I did that cashapp banned from buying anymore bitcoin, so I was afraid of something happening if I transferred my atm btc to it and I was desperate to make the transaction happen. I am glad I did because I was one of the last orders to get processed before he stopped

I don't think you will have an issue using Exodus though or another private wallet though and you have time to get ready

I went to a Walgreens in February, they had a WU computer that I inputted my info and then it printed out a ticket that I took to the cashier and paid in cash. I used my real name, as I needed to use it for my address, they did not ask me for an ID but I think many places do. It is less private than BTC but at this point in my life, I feel I haven't much to lose.

I have heard of other people being asked questions about who they were sending money to, as they are checking to see if you aren't being scammed. I think I bypassed the questions by going into a fairly busy Walgreens where I had already put all my info in and they didn't have time to care.
