Help Best way to protect SN longevity?

I'll be receiving my SN in a couple days, and I'm just worried since I've been seeing a couple threads pop up lately about the stability of SN and handling it properly, testing it etc. It just makes me nervous about my own sodium nitrite.

I don't have all sorts of fancy test equipment and I just ordered it from DSL.

Do I need to be careful with how it's stored to protect its shelf life? What if I open it to test it and then wait a couple months? I just know I'm going to kill myself in 2026, I don't know when, not yet. So how should I best protect the longevity of my SN?

And yes, I have read the pinned thread about the stability of SN, I'm just posting this since I've seen so much discussion about it and now Im curious.

Don't open it until you are sure you are ready to CTB.
If the source is reliable, and the product was stored in a fairly dark, dry place, I guess you don't need to test it.

What would happen if I did open it long before I'm ready to CTB? I feel like I've read conflicting information on this.

I would put an opened SN container into 2 layers of zip lock baggies.

you run the risk of reducing it's shelf life.

Put it in a safe area where it's not going to get wet , make sure it's dry and in a room temperature area.
Hide it in a not so obvious place away from prying eyes and please be aware that with DSL you are very likely to get a welfare check.

Oh and I always hide mine in a bigger container such as a waterproof bag ,a lunch container or a satchel.

I have mine stored in an air tight container, surrounded by reusable dessicant packages. Every once in a while I'll check the dessicants to see if they've absorbed any moisture, but some of the sn I've stored hasn't shown any signs of moisture acclimation despite years of storage. Given that the dessicants change color when exposed to moisture, I feel like it's one of the safest ways to check if the sn has been potentially compromised, but this all could be overkill.

Even though I know it's safe to use, I still order it every year or so just to be certain.
