  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Shanti De Corte, was one of the survivors of the terrorist attack in Brussels, capital of Belgium, in 2016 by the "jihadist" Islamic terrorist group ISIS.

This situation generated serious affectations in her mental health, in the midst of a process that was worsening despite receiving specialized help, to such an extent that it led her to request, before the courts of her country, that she be granted the right to die with dignity, through the process of euthanasia.

Despite the psychological and psychiatric help to which the girl was subjected, she was subject to continuous panic attacks that affected her for life, and which plunged her into a serious state of depression, even leading her to attempt to take her own life on two occasions, 2018 and 2020, warning that she had begun to suffer from an unbearable mental condition that led her to no longer want to exist.

the girl said goodbye on her Facebook account with the following message: "I laughed and cried. Until the last day. I loved and was allowed to feel what true love was. Now I will go in peace. I know I miss you already."

Rest in peace. At least all those gone cannot suffer anymore. It's good to hear that Belgium allows people to have assisted suicide, the option really should be available everywhere in the world.

I'm 90% sure this is copy/paste from a news site, but i have a few issues with the wording here
23 year old girl, no she is a woman, calling her a 23 year old girl just sounds like infantilization to me.

I think Canada is on the same path for assisted suicide if I'm not wrong

It's very badly written so you're probably right. Mental health affectations lol

Nope it isn't. Would you call a 23 year old male a boy?

Well, maybe it's because I'm not American. Where I live, it really doesn't make much difference. Maybe I'm not expressing myself well about age. sorry

I have citizenship in multiple countries in both the united states and Europe, so from a westerner's perspective it is very badly written. I don't know about other places though.

girl=someone who is underage typically under 18
woman=someone who is an adult typically over the age of 18

teens may be called girl or woman, it is context dependent at least where i am. Sometimes they might be called young woman/lady (lady being used more often)

i don't get all the bickering about how the article snippet is poorly written. that's besides the point. i think it is great that assisted suicide is starting to be recognized and utilized around the world. i am glad that she is no longer suffering anymore. as someone with similar mental health issues and constant panic attacks this brings me hope that this option will become available for me in the future.

not saying i disagree with this sentiment, but if news sources are going to type up there articles with infantilizing language that is still a problem for acceptance. We have a long way to go unfortunately.

i understand that type of infantilizing language sends the wrong message, but i don't see how this one post is representative of all news sources. in fact i did a google search of euthanasia 23 year old belgium and most of the articles i see do state "woman". 🤷‍♀️

It may be written that way because the assisted suicide of a 23 year old "girl" sounds more shocking than a 23 year old woman. Gotta get those clicks. And yeah, it is infantilization.
