At least the topic is getting more attention but a lot of the numbers are useless when talking about referrals, when so many people won't even be able to get that. If they had numbers of people who asked their GP for help (and barely got any) they would be in the millions, not hundred thousands.

The NHS seem to have abandoned me since I tried to kill myself too.

I asked my GP for help after attempting to jump off a bridge (stopped by the police). They prescribed me anti-depressants and put me on a 2 year waiting list for talking therapy. A couple weeks later, I called again complaining that the anti-depressants were not working and I would like to change them for a different kind. My GP then told me since I was 'refusing' to follow her advice, that she would no longer contact me and then hung up on me. All I asked was for a change in anti-depressants...

Fast forward 2 months later, I went missing for 2 days after taking an overdose and am now sectioned in a psychiatric hospital, where I've now been for 4 months. My GP did not listen to me, and it didn't have to get this bad if she would've just changed the medication and worked with me instead of abandoning me over a simple request. I appreciate that currently they are trying to help me, but there is not much help out there to be honest. All they can do is keep me safe until I change my mind about ctb which is very unlikely as none of the medications have worked so far.

I do really wish there was something they could do, but in all honestly I think it was left too late.

So much for healthcare workers in the developed world working on the front-line, it's as though COVID-19 is a get out clause so they're exempt from criticism.

Same, twice. Not a single fuck given. Sent on my merry way despite telling them I would do it again.

Some doctors can get really funny if you ask for even just a change in medication. I had a similar situation as yours, but with different meds. Omeprazole was not working out for me, I tried explaining to 1 doctor on 2 occasions that Omeprazole would make me feel better for a few days then I'd suddenly feel much worse. His advice was to up the dosage.

...You would not give that kind of advice for a medication that made you feel worse after feeling better. (Unless if the patient was doing something else they shouldn't. First time I thought I was still eating too fatty foods, but then it happened a second time anyways despite cutting out as much fatty foods as possible.) He even rejected my request to change the meds the second time I saw him, his excuse was that the PPIs 'all work the same and shouldn't make a difference which one you take'.

I had to go see a different doctor to change from Omeprazole to Lansoprazole, and he had a completely different opinion from the first doctor saying that yes the different kinds of PPIs can have different effects (although admittedly I did lie to him saying that I took 60mg Omeprazole for 9 days when I only ever done it for 2 days, in hopes that I could convince him that Omeprazole was not working out for me).

The thing with anti depressants is they can take a long time to actually take affect, depending on the meds and the person. The doctor that said that they all work the same and won't matter is clearly there to collect a fat paycheck and nothing else.

Omeprazole and Lansoprazole aren't anti-depressents, they're Proton Pump Inhibitors that reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces, mainly used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. Most PPIs say you should start feeling better after taking them 3-4 days but not 100% until after 28 days. Lansoprazole actually worked for me just as I previously described. Omeprazole wouldn't until after about 6-7 days, then taking another one the next day would make my GERD worse.

Someone I know attempted and got no help from the NHS either. At the hospital, they were asked a series of questions based on a checklist of socio-economic conditions to determine if they were at risk or not. It was decided that no further action was required. The NHS is a joke.

Unfortunately from my experiences the NHS and most GPs are very bad when it comes to mental health, they leave you feeling like you're a lost cause.
