there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the barium method and how exactly to about the consumption/process of barium chloride (BC). of course i realize that its not as extensively researched/tried as SN but with SN restrictions, barium may be my only option going forward. i've read @SaltySuh's barium method thread but found it pretty confusing with no direct information on how much to consume, side effects, & how long it takes to pass after consumption. i thought i'd start a new thread in hopes of creating a better, more direct resource for myself & others curious about this method & its effectiveness.

i'm wondering how much i would need to consume as some say about 15g of dihydrate form BC is necessary & others are saying much more for a body weight of around 65kg. i'm also wondering how long it would take to pass after consuming BC as i do not want to be found/intervened & need to prepare enough time to pass.

if anyone has any information at all, please let me know!

Phenol (injection) is better, easier to get and cheap.

How to Consume Barium

If an individual were to use this method, these would be the likely steps an individual would perform:
  1. Take an antiemetic beforehand as one would in the case of sodium nitrite.
  2. Fast for the 12 hours preceding one's consumption of the barium salt.
  3. Mix one's soluble barium salt with sufficient water to ensure there is no undissolved salt.
  4. Chug the bitter solution.
  5. Await death.
Side Effects

The effects reported in barium come in three waves as follows.
Wave
Effects
1
Nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain (nothing that can't also be encountered when consuming sodium nitrite or azide).
2
Muscle weakness, tingling or numbness, and paralysis.
3
Hypokalemia and cardiac dysrhythmia respiratory paralysis, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, cardiopulmonary arrest, and finally death.

Onset of Effects

Onset of barium is reported as usually within 10 to 60 minutes. Death typically occurs within 2-12 hours (although 2 to 4 hours is most commonly stated) following consumption of barium. In one report, the individuals who remained alive after 16 hours post-consumption eventually did survive barium poisoning and made a recovery.

Effectiveness

There has been reported one case wherein 27 individuals experienced barium poisoning. Within the following 16 hours post-consumption, 12 of the 27 had died (4 of them died within the first 3 hours). This equates to a mortality rate of 44%.

Dose

25g of the anhydrous chloride and 30g of the dihydrate.

In terms of rating chemical methods according to the manner listed in the PPH, here is how I would rate barium salts as a method.
Criteria
Score
Reliability (10)
5
Barium has been widely recognized for its toxicity for over a hundred years. However, its use as a suicide agent is less extensively documented.
Peacefulness (10)
5
Beyond gastrointestinal upset, documented cases of barium deaths report symptoms far less agonizing or dramatic than those caused by sodium selenite, hydrogen sulfide, or phosphine poisoning.
Availability (10)
10
Barium salts are available from major online retailers. These salts are also found in numerous consumer products.
Preparation (5)
5
It's rather simple to prepare the actual method and the salts themselves (should some salts become restricted).
Undetectability (5)
5
Although not impossible to detect post-mortem, identifying barium poisoning in autopsy is more elusive than identifying sodium nitrite or azide.
Speed (5)
2
Death from soluble barium salts can take up to 12 hours.
Safety (5)
4
Beyond complications from hypokalemia and some residual cardiac effects, most individuals who survived poisoning with barium salts were reported as eventually able to make a recovery. Barium poisoning is also reversible to a degree. The rare possibility of kidney damage was the most severe reported outcome for surviving the poison.
Storage (5)
5
Most salts can be stored like ordinary table salt. The nitrate, chromate, and perchlorate salts are all strong oxidizers. The nitrate is an explosive. These three salts require more careful storage.
Legality (5)
5
Beyond the United Kingdom, there are generally few restrictions on barium salts.
Total: 76%

Oh ffs.... another item that the UK restricts. SN looks like a dream then I started down the barium rabbit hole. Sounded so tempting I should have guessed the UK restricts it.

Does anyone know if there's some barium salts that aren't restricted and can be converted to ideally the chloride or taken as is with some reliability of ctb?

Edit. Nvm barium carbonate can be easily obtained and works as well as the chloride but more needs to be taken.

You can react BaCO3 with HCl to make BaCl2.

I don't reccomend doing this without any sedatives, please check my other post on the Barium method thread for my experience with BaCl2.
