As a previous monk who devoted myself to a notion of God, this made me laugh.

I think religious notions are coping mechanisms to make sense of a chaotic world. Poetic metaphor, at best.

This is just Pascal's wagerposting and that has been debunked a million times. It's been debunked so much that when I took intro to phil our teacher talked about it and then deboonked it. I hardly believe any God who would be deserving of worship would at all want to be worshipped by someone who is doing it purely out of fear of eternal damnation.

i value asceticism and the rationalistic tendencies of christianity. it's something close to a gnostic tendency, but i relate far more to christian parables

i am in some sense a dogmatist, but only because i am by nature very elitist. that is also one component of early christianity that i value which is neglected in its current form

my preferences for christianity mainly consist in ascetic practices which was predicated upon a moral foundation rather than simply being a path to enlightenment, a reason i originally became disillusioned with buddhism.
i don't really believe in meditation. forceful contemplation, maybe. another reason why i turned away from buddhism.
i hold gnostic tendencies insofar as it tries not to overstep its boundaries. i am a dogmatist when it comes to morals only. something like quaker moralism is just casuistry, imo.
