Often times, I feel like non-artists fail to appreciate our works. They just think it looks nice and move on, or even have the audacity to criticize. Artists, meanwhile, can actually appreciate your work because they know how hard it is. They know about art, so they can more appreciate your effort and technique.

I don't know. I just hate showing my art to non-artists because the response is always equivalent to nothing or simply just a thumbs up emoji. It's disheartening, and makes me overthink if I'm really a good artist or not. I doubt myself often as well, wondering if the reason is because I'm simply not a good enough artist to impress them. I really just prefer to share my art with fellow artists, it just totally kills my vibe when I show art I worked hours on and I get an indifferent response. I was proud of it and thought it looked nice but after a response like that I start to doubt myself.

Maybe I'm just not a great artist. I don't know anymore. I considered art to be one of the skills I was proud of… something I was good at. What are non-artists expecting from me, anyway? A top to bottom illustration that combats Leonardo Da Vinci? I'm only 21, I have never been to art school, and art is only a hobby of mine. I'm far from a professional, but I thought my art would at least be worthy of appreciation given all that.

Woops. Sorry, started to rant. I'm making this thread for discussion.

Any other artists have this problem?

i relate to it. art is so brutal sometimes and i used to create it because i felt like it was exciting and fun, but then when i shared things i felt like it became so comparative. like it was always in the context of what other people did or what others had seen. i hated that aspect of creativity. it's awful.

I totally get what you're saying! In fact this actually isn't the first time I heard about an artist talking about this topic, especially when it comes to posting it on social media. Someone can spend hours on a piece and post it, only for it to get little traction or people who do see it just give it a simple like and immediately scroll, not taking the time to really appreciate it or at least comment.

Generally yeah, people who aren't artists themselves don't really grasp the hard work and love put into art and fully appreciating it. Que the reason why people choose ai art over real art. Arguably could say that about other fields. I wouldn't be disheartened by it though, as I genuinely caught the idea other people won't really appreciate it to a general extent unless they actively support artists, are fans of cartoons, stuff like that. It's frustrating when those people criticize art though (that isn't constructive in the slightest).

However, there are still people outside of just artist that will appreciate your stuff, it's a matter of finding those people. But yeah, much easier to share art with other artists though honestly, they hype you up more. Don't let those lack of comments bring you down!

I'm sure your artwork is awesome! Never doubt yourself! Coming from an artist myself :)

Exactly! You make something, and the response is always "I've seen better" coming from someone who can only draw stickmen! Art is supposed to be expression for artists, when did we start caring about these normies views?!

The social media thing is super true, and you're right about the AI art as well. I was mostly disheartened because I was showing a friend who wasn't an artist and he just moved on to the next topic without caring at all. I appreciate what you're saying, though. Thank you :)

I get this. That's why I don't share my art with anyone now. I think non-artists cannot see the beauty in our creation that we see. When I put all my efforts in those things and the responses are like this ,it just breaks my heart.

Don't doubt yourself. Just love your creations.

I get that. It can be disheartening when you share something you've put so much of yourself into with others who aren't able to see it the way you do. I think sharing art is important, but the act of creating is more so. Sharing art is one way for artists connect with others, but I've gotten the blank-faced, "Oh, that's cool," response and it wondered if it really connected at all. Different people have varying degrees of ability to appreciate art as expression, some just see it as an object only worth what it might sell for.
