Well, it's that time. I am tired of pissing coca cola colored urine, feeling sick all the time and generally in a lot of pain, especially in the morning. So, I quit work about 2 months ago (Operations Manager) and explored a few places I haven't been to in my home of Texas and then drove to Florida to do some saltwater fishing before I clock out. *I decided on Argon as Helium is experiencing a shortage and the price is def. being gouged, shortage or not both gasses will do the same so why pay more?

My Setup
  • 40 cu/ft tank filled at 2200psi of 100% Pure Argon from my local welding shop. Most Welding shops do a cylinder exchange and I didn't have a tank laying around, so I had to purchase this one for $120 and the Argon was exactly $33.
  • If you are worried about walking in and answering questions about buying Argon just tell store clerk your buddy is doing some aluminum welding for some patio chairs of yours as a favor. Play dumb after that and tell the clerk "that's what your friend said to get" for his TIG setup.
  • When I did it the clerk curiously asked me what I was welding and I said, "my boy is welding some rocket launches on my fishing boat and reinforcing my swim platform" This being Florida he casually said, "Oh, Yep, this is def. what you need." The End.

  • Victor 1425-580 FlowMeter with 10ft of hose and wrench (not pictured)
  • Now this set me back $140 at the same local gas shop, probably could get it cheaper online but I like to buy all my stuff where I can see it. Brick and Mortal stores all the way, that allows me to exchange it ASAP should anything be defective.
  • Honestly, I wouldn't cheap out on this part, sure Amazon Chinese Knockoff crap flowmeters would probably do the trick but $140 was still a bargain for a mid-tier flowmeter.
  • You will need a wrench or pliers to tightly connect the flowmeter to tank, I'm sure most people have one laying around. **That's the ONLY tool you will need**

  • Oven Bag, Head Bands, and Athletic Tape
  • I actually bought 2 boxes for a total of 4 bags in size Large (19x23) for testing and final use, they are only like $3-5 for a box so, it's not like you will break the bank.
  • Head Bands, I bought 2 of the $1 Walmart head bands, 1 to hold the hose up on my neck and another to hold the bag over my head.
  • Athletic tape, $2 dollars, this is a back up just incase I feel I need to really tighten the bag more around my neck as the tape is mildly elastic. Doubt I will need it but again, but it's only a few dollars.

  • Tequila and Vodka
  • Chilled Vodka is my drink of choice and the tequila is left over from a party. I plan to do 2 shots of the Vodka about an hour before I put the hood on.

That's a mighty heavy-duty hose for this use!!!! Also, any reason you went with Argon instead of Nitrogen?

My only concern about this set up would be if the headband made the bag sealed around your neck , where would the exhaled CO2 vent ?

Sorry to hear about your health issues, this would be my reason as well

I noticed that also. I assume that he's going to construct the usual elastic cord w/toggle on the bag, and maybe just wants the headband to hold up the more heavy-duty-than-usual hose. But I await his response.

Now, I thought about using a hose reducer and then clamping on clear medical hose but hell, after testing the black hose worked just fine. Also, the hose was included with the Flowmeter so that's a bonus. Some kits have either the 6' or 10' and the shop I bought it at only carried the 10' 5/8th hose.

Honestly, no reason on Argon vs Nitrogen. I just chose one and went with it.

I will use 1 head band to hold the hose up and I'll use another one to fit gently over the bag around my neck, I've been pre-stretching it out so it fits very lightly over the bag, its a cheap head band so when stretched out its very porous and shouldn't have a hard time letting out the CO2 while retaining some holding power.

Got it. You're absolutely correct, why bother with more connections than necessary, the heavy-duty black hose-- though meant to connect to the welding torch itself-- will work just fine. And I like the idea that the hose came with the flowmeter.

I'm relatively new here, still researching, but as of now your method is my method!

I understand completely. However, just IMHO, I think you should use the more usual arrangement: make a taped seam in the bottom of the bag, cut a slit, insert an elastic cord, fasten it with a toggle. Many videos available.

And getting back to the hose, I agree that fewer connections are better and it came with the meter, but I'd be just a tad concerned with the heaviness of it and keeping it in the bag after you pass out. That's important. Were you planning on securely taping it to the inside of the bag?

I have 1 bag that I made a toggle cord out of, via videos on the net. When I was at Wally World I bought a cheap laundry bag with toggle and cord, $3.

When I tested the head band method first on a 30 CFH full flow, the bag fills up fast and gases escape easily while still forming a nice bubble round my head so I didn't go with the toggle method, doesn't mean I won't take it will me when I plan to finally Clock Out Rock Out. Backups on Backups.

The Question about the weight of the cord, since it is heavy, I will run it under my arm pit up my neck and have the end of the hose right near my mouth, like a headset mic. The head band around my neck easily holds the hose in place when I did a test run on my couch while I watched some Netflix and dosing off for an hour.. Even while shifting in my sleep on the couch it stayed in place, its not a stiff hose like plastic but its not limp like spaghetti. So I was satisfied.

Two quick questions. Is 30 CFH about equal to the recommended 15 LPM? And when you ran your test, you didn't actually take in any breaths of the gas, did you?

No 30 CFH is 14.16 LPM.

When it's GO Time, I will set the flow around 40+/- CFH on the flowmeter which is 18.8 LPM min.

To Test it, I just filled the bag up but only had it tightened around my forehead so I wasn't breathing any gas in, once I was satisfied with the easy that gas escaping I turned off the tank, let out all the air in my lungs out then pulled the bag over my head, took a few deep breaths and pulled it off immediately. Nothing to report, no smell, no panic, nothing, however I am more than confident that when GO time is near it will be lights out in 30 seconds but by the time you realize how long it's been, its over.

Nitrogen 20 seconds

That seems like a good method. You go unconscious in 20 seconds breathing pure nitrogen. It's completely painless. 20 seconds to oblivion and freedom forever from pain and all this hell. I'm trying to perfect a method myself but it's using a mask i'm building and other stuff. Argon , nitrogen, helium same thing. I'm going to plan, test. Testing is the key to success.

Could you please explain the mask you're constructing? Is it one of those industrial respirators? Is your mask a full-face or half-face mask? This sounds like a very appealing alternative to having a bag on one's head.

Got it. I read a reliable source (sorry, can't quite remember which) where a witness assisting the person said that the person passed out with just one breath. Not died, but passed out. I believe that this is possible, everyone's physiology is just slightly unique. That's why I asked if you actually took a breath. :smiling:

Sounds to me like you've really done your homework, are on the ball, very competent. I'm impressed!

I'm 71, have two serious health issues that will eventually leave me bed or wheelchair-bound; physically unable to act for myself, possibly mentally. I want to act while I can, and I hope to do it in an efficient and competent manner like you.

My plan is to use a full face diving mask like the slovak guy . But those respirators would work too. like this one pictured below.

The key is that this mask has a one way valve that lets co2 out. So you just need a tube to blow in pure nitrogen. So you have nitrogen coming in from one end. co2 out the other. If i can't find adapters connectors you can just drill a hole in somewhere on the top of the mask and make a vinyl tube fit in through there like in the GULPS monoxide generator.

How will you regulate the nitrogen? Fixed flow rate? You would need a very high flow rate to keep up with the amount of gas you suck in when inhaling. This can be reduced by having a reservoir like an inflatable bag in the tubing leading into the mask.

Nitrogen/Argon regulator similar to the OP's. It has to have a barb fitting to attach a vinyl tubing.
You can set flow rate w/ regulator. Maybe you or op or someone can tell me what would be a good flow rate for this setup?

Like here:
Such medical mask are not recommended by the way.

Slovak guy used a scuba regulator that supplies gas only on demand, when breathing in.

That entails using a nitrogen regulator with adjustable output pressure (not a flowmeter) and connecting it to the second stage of a scuba regulator (the mouthpiece). Or adapting the first stage of the scuba regulator to fit nitrogen cylinders.
Maybe you or op or someone can tell me what would be a good flow rate for this setup?
15 liters per minute.

This works as long as there is a one way valve that lets air out but not in. Don't need a demand valve regulator.
This is just like an exit bag except the seal is air tight and only one way for pure nitrogen in and the one way exit valve will
expel excess nitrogen and co2.
So you have nitrogen coming in. Nitrogen and co2 out.
See the GULPS carbon monoxide video for putting vynil tubing through plastic.

You have nitrogen coming in only one way through the tube and any air goes out the one way valve .
True. But then you need a very high flow rate. When breathing in you suck in air/gas at a rate far higher than 15 lpm. or even 30 lpm. I dont have data at hand, but you inhale a lot in a short time. Because such a scuba or firefighter mask is airtight, you will restrict your breathing when the constant flow rate does not match the amount you inhale. This is very problematic, i would guess it would lead to failure.

Since at this point I'm planning on this method, I've also been looking into the mask option. So I'm interested in this conversation. Currently (and I'm always interested in new information) the whole option seems to violate the KISS principle, for the sole purpose of avoiding pulling a clear plastic bag down over one's head. For me that's no big deal, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Yeah I guess increasing it to 30LPM or matching breathing rate would make it work. I guess i have to get an oxygen tank or air tank to test flow rate. All I need is what 40 seconds to go unconscious with a 30 LPm pure nitrogen in a room and 20 seconds if i manage to eventually take this underwater as my grahpic shows 20 seconds to oblivion. If i can get it so i test this with an oxygen tank at 30 Lpm or something like that in a room for a couple of minutes that would almost guarantee i pass out and it works. Of course if i test this underwater all you need is 20 seconds because you pass out after breathing in pure nitrogen after 20 seconds. Of course in a room on land there is no guarantee that is pure pure nitrogen so that's why i say 40 seconds to 2 minutes to pass out on land.

Medical masks are not advised, we have documented failures and problems, mainly because they are never 100% tight on ones face. Third paragraph:

A 100% airtight mask like full face scuba or for firefighters is only feasible when using with a scuba regulator or reservoir bag. That entails some technical prowess and understanding. A "lots of tape" approach to fitting stuff together and make it somewhat gastight invites failure.

I chose the Bag because its Tried and True and like another poster said, it follows the KISS principle.

Also, once that bag is over your head and filled with gas the debate over Mask or Bag, Chevy or Ford, will be mute in a mater of seconds..

Philip Nitschke tells the story of Professor Huib Drion who said that there should be a pill you should be able to take if you wanted to die. He and Exit International relabled this Drion Pill concept as The Peaceful Pill. That's all I really want. All this complicated, risky, expensive, nerve-wracking rigamarole is just a flat-out drag. I'd like to take my time and wrap everything up, get rid of my stuff, say whatever farewells I want, have a couple of pints of a good ale and take a peaceful pill. But, alas...

I wasn't really planning to post all this but pane asked about it so I got into it. Yes i know to test for air tightness under water in a bathub looking for bubbles etc. Test test test. You all have to watch the GULPS monoxide video to see how vinyl tubing through plastic is airtight. this is not duck taping things together. I'm mot recommending this to anyone. It's just that pane asked about it so i replied . But i hope it doesn't seem like i'm debating anyone. I'm just replying to explain my planning and not seem like an idiot, and yes mainly to see if someone can find some holes in my method . Any criticism is definitely welcome because it will help me make this work . I just want this to work for me cause i need oblivion. I just know it will work for me . My goal is just to exit painlessly not to prove myself right or one up some one or make someone believe something etc. I just want help with info. so any is welcome. I think either the nitrogen mask or exit bag could work. For me I'm trying this mask because my plan is to go under water with it.

Yes I'm taking this nitrogen mask under water. Let's say it's in a pool. the nitrogen tank is outside the water secured by the edge of the pool. And the vinyl tube connects from the nitrogen tank into the full face diving or or full face snorkel mask.
IMG 20191031 191518823

See how i got air tight vinyl tubing here in these jars. This is when i was trying to do the carbon monoxide gulps monoxide generator. But i'm using the tubing through plastic technique for the nitrogen mask. Then I get under water and put the nitrogen mask on and it's 20 seconds to oblivion. I'll try to post more on this method when i get it completed if i get time. I'm in a race against time and don't have much time or money.

There's no air under water so then I'll be breathing in pure nitrogen so I'll pass out in 20 seconds after i put the mask on. And I'll secure myself so i can't come up out of the water so if something goes wrong then i'll drown anyway. The nitrogen is just so i'll be unconscious fast and so i won't feel pain. Yeah i know it's complicated but i need to make this work. My original plan was just to drown but i thought that might be painfull unless i am able to aspirate a lot of water fast. If anyone can see any problems with this plan please let me know so i can fix it because i need to exit this horrible life i have
