I was thinking of buying 500g bitter apricot kernels and grinding them up. Maybe boiling them in water and sugar for a syrup? Supposedly they have a lot of cyanide. Any ideas for this method? I really don't want to jump in front of a train and scar an engineer.

I very much doubt that you will be able to consume enough.

I may be wrong, then.
I just can't picture someone killing themselves due to an overdose of apricots.
Hmmm well it's the kernel. Think of it like the apple seeds which also contain cyanide, although a lesser amount than apricots.

here is an article where a man got cyanide poisoning from eating the kernels.

Bitter kernels contain a chemical called amygdalin that is converted into cyanide in ones body. One might be able to, but I would say no also. In my cheesy thoughts it has to high of a risk vs rewards factor.

What would the risk be? :)

do you know the exact amount you would need to consume?
It also sounds like it would be very unpleasant.

The risks can include: headaches, rashes, fever, insomnia, pain in joints and muscles and a drop in blood pressure. Not every time, BUT sometimes the side effects can be very nasty. Again, if it was me I would say no and think of other means. When I was growing up and "dad", would use cyanide to kill badgers that were making a home in the wall of a dam and if left unchecked would burst the dam. I saw 1st hand what cyanide did to those poor badgers and there is no way in hell, would I want that chemical used on me.

You can find amygdalin (aka vitamin b17) on ebay, it's sold as a "alternative cancer treatment".

It's something I considered, I actually have a big bag of kernels here, very bitter ones that contain a lot of amygdalin - but I aren't going to take them, there are in my opinion better, easier, less painful and more certain ways.

The apricots are going in the bin.

Yes amygdalin (b17) is a alternative cancer treatment BUT it makes the compound laetrile in the human body and the human body in turn produces cyanide from the laetrile. Like almost anything, too much of even a good thing can turn bad as using something like b17 for cancer. Too much b17 if one has cancer and one might be actually slowly poisoning ones self.

I, hate to be opinionated, BUT like I said in my last post, I saw what it did to badgers growing up and NO. There has to be better ways of ctb than this. Cyanide turned the badgers a weird green color and the whole area smelled like almonds. Cyanide when it reacts with a living being produces a almond smell. OMG does it bring back BAD memories of seeing the poor badgers gasping and smelling that damn almond smell.
